Does anyone have or know anything about the monitors KRK V6 powered ($700.00 a pair), or the ENERGY bookshelf C-3's ($500.00 a pair)?

The V6's are designed for near-field monitoring. Like most KRK products, they have a reputation for good power handling, but occasional low end mushiness. Some love 'em, some hate 'em. I haven't listened to Energy speakers for a long time, but I would expect that they are designed for general purpose home use rather than fixed-position near-field monitoring. That doesn't mean they're bad, just designed with a different purpose in mind.

Assuming you're looking for monitors, other popular brands with near-fields around the same price point are Event (20/20 series), Tannoy (Reveal series), and Alesis (M1mk2). For several hundred dollars more, you can get into the Mackie (624/824), Yamaha (NS-10p), and Genelec (1030) range. That's not inclusive, but those are the biggies.

Everyone has their favorites, so my best advice is to find a good pro-audio dealer and get out and listen for what you like. There's also plenty of info out on the web and in newsgroups.

J.
