Subject:Annoying midi recording problem

I have a midi keyboard hooked up to my soundcard. When I press record and choose the midi option I can see the monitor picking up the sound when I strike the keys. But when I press record and play no midi loop is created. Recording used to be automatic. It seems like some setting must have changed but I can't work out what. What's going wrong? This is frustrating. Thanks, Chris (Hunt) |

Check first that ACID is or isn't recording midi by recording, then looking in the piano roll editor, see that there is some information there. If so, it's probably a routing problem, ie ACID is trying to play back midi on a non-existent device... Are you using external midi sounds or softsynths? Click the third icon from the right just above the volume fader for the midi track and this should give a list of midi devices available. Set this to your soundcard's midi out for external devices or apply it to a softsynth. (This assumes you already have a softsynth inserted). If not, you probably need to uninstall then reinstall ACID. BFB |

Thanks for the reply, I haven't changed a setting but today Acid is recording midi again. Perhaps Acid is just unstable. I'm not quite sure about your instructions. I have various soft synths, but Acid doesn't use an existing midi track when recording (I've never got it to), it always adds a new midi track, so the location you are referring to doesn't exist until after the recording. I feel Acid should be recording to an existing midi track as you describe but I've never had it do that. I'm being to suspect that the reason it didn't record was because the file name of the track it was going to record already existed. Acid 2 would record over a track which was handy when doing multiple takes but Acid 4 doesn't want to do that. It should definitely be an option. Thanks again, Chris |
