Subject:Are E-Mu products any good?

A friend and I have been shopping around for a pro audio card, and we found this new product from E-Mu that looks good:
http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp?product=2213&category=631&maincategory=631

The specs and features look great, and the device will retail for around $600 and is due to be released mid-to-late February.

I've also noticed the manufacturer is, essentially, Creative, who made the infamous Audigy cards that misleadingly don't record 24-bit. I've also read complaints about E-Mu dropping support for the APS product, which has ticked off a lot of people.

Would this product be a good bet to invest in? What are your opinions?

Looks pretty good. I'd be concerned with support though.

Were you looking for something with multiple types of I/O's? Or did you want just mulitple I/O's?

The features I'm most interested in are 24-bit, 44,48,96,192 sampling, and the 1/4" TRS and the XLR inputs, and 1/4" TRS outputs. Also, this particular product has a VSTi sampler that will incorporate into Acid (a call confirmed compatibility), but that is mainly icing. Browsing around, I haven't seen any cards that will do 192KHz sampling in this price range. Do you know of any?

I am concerned, though, about support and driver quality, which will probably be the worst aspect of the product line. Also, I remember reading on a forum somewhere about E-Mu products failing (the APS device, I think it was) and their replacements from tech support arriving DOA. Quality control may be an issue, but they may have improved things with this new product line. Who knows?

I wouldn't go with the e-mu card unless their sampler is what you really want.
