Hello Everyone, I am using SF7 and so far, I have encountered a few issues. When I use the (ALT+1) explore media tool, it does not automatically detect the contents of CD, even if I refresh the screen, or refresh the contents of the folder. I have to eject the CD, and reload it, then the CD is detected, and its contents are listed respectively. Another issue is if I use the save all feature, and I make no changes to the wave files present in that session. During a file close operation why I am encountered with a dialog box, asking me if I want to save changes when in fact I have made no changes? This seems a little odd to me. Furthermore, when I try to rename a file in the explorer window, the file has somehow misplaced its header file. In other words, it remains a legitimate wave file, mp3, etc. However, the file extension and file association has been misplaced. Along the same note, if I create a folder in that window, and provide a name as expected, why does the folder name remains new folder. Until I go to the adjacent directory, tree and rename it there. Once more, that seems a bit odd to me. Lastly, when I use the explorer window drag and drop function, it sometimes brings the file in not from the beginning but rather from some arbitrary location on the CD. For example, I drag track 6 -- but the wave file represents Partial of five and some of six, etc. I find these issues to be interesting but not discouraging. Some great additions such as VU meter and threshold recording are under repeated use. Thanks in advance for comments, Kevin *** |

" A: I have not experienced the same problem, if I do a refresh it always updates the information with the current CD contents. Could you give further information of the exact steps you're doing? Another issue is if I use the save all feature, and I make no changes to the wave files present in that session. During a file close operation why I am encountered with a dialog box, asking me if I want to save changes when in fact I have made no changes? This seems a little odd to me. A: When this happens, you have previously extracted them all from CD correct? This doesn't happen if you open a .Wav file and do a "Save ALL" correct? If this is the scenario, then yes I have seen this before and it seemed a bit strange to me also. I believe because it has indeed changed from being a .CDA track to a .Wav file. I do find this a bit annoying and wished there was an alternative, because I extract a number of songs from CD and I just want to use the default extracted name list and point to a folder on my hard drive and have them all automatically saved without being prompted for each file. Furthermore, when I try to rename a file in the explorer window, the file has somehow misplaced its header file. In other words, it remains a legitimate wave file, mp3, etc. However, the file extension and file association has been misplaced. A: In windows you probably have show file extenstions enabled. Therefore it is showing the .MP3, .Wav, etc. in the name when you view the file. Then when you rename, you are probably leaving the 3 letter extension off of the renamed file. Well, it's doing what you told it too. You need to include the dot extension name when doing your rename. Windows still knows what type of file this is because it has the header information intact. You also could turn off the "show file extenstions" in the windows preferences so that it doesn't show the extension in the explorer window. Along the same note, if I create a folder in that window, and provide a new as expected, why does the folder name remains new folder. Until I go to the adjacent directory, tree and rename it there. Once more, that seems a bit odd to me. A: I've reported this problem to Sony as a bug awhile back, so they are aware of this, just didn't get fixed yet. Lastly, when I use the explorer window drag and drop function, it sometimes brings the file in not from the beginning but rather from some arbitrary location on the CD. For example, I drag track 6 -- but the wave file represents Partial of five and some of six, etc A: Haven't seen this. Have you tried the same process in another app on the same CD? Could be due to the CD's table of contents of where the Track ID's are located within a song. It's very possible to put Track ID's on the CD in this fashion, just as a copy protection scheme, for people that extract songs and save as .MP3 and do the file sharing thing, so that things get messed up like you noticed. |

The only issue that remains unique is my CD browsing issue. Good day, Kevin *** |

"Here are my steps [01] I put a CD into the drive [02] I start SF7 [03] Activate the explorer window [04] Click the refresh button [05] Wait for CD contents to appear in the browser window" I've tried this on 2 seperate systems. One with WinXP Pro, and one with Win2k pro and am not experiencing the same thing. Do you have autoplay enabled on the Cdrom drive, where it automatically opens an app and starts to play it? The only thing I could think of is that it may be possible, that autoplay is active and the CD is causing another app to access the CDrom drive and that other app doesn't like to share the drive. I've had similar issues, where autoplay was enabled and it kept starting Windows Media player, and when I was extracting in Sound Forge it was taking an abnormally long time to rip a track. Unknowingly it was playing the CD with WMP, and extracting in Sound Forge at the same time. |

Hello RednRoll, I have tinkered with the autoplay settings for my optical drive, and none of them have made a difference as to how the (alt+1), Browse directory contents function in SF7 responds to the drive. *** However, if I eject the bay and then close it again (cycle the drive), while the SF7 explorer - browser window is opened then everything works fine. *** It is a tolerable issue, so therefore I have really focused on learning how to employ the great tools in SF7. Thank and all of your replies are appreciated, Kevin |

How many cd drives do you have? I have a D dvd/cd play only drive and an E cdrw drive. When I open a cd in Soundforge 6, I can either choose open and select the drive or chose "extract from CD", which is the option I prefer to use. When I chose that option I can select to look at either the D or the E drive. If I put a CD in the E drive and the D drive is selected it's as though no file is loaded. I have to chose the correct drive (Do this once because Soundforge remembers the last drive selection until you make a change) and in the window the files contained on the CD are shown. I have auto start on for both drives and have had no problem with that option causing any problems for Soundforge. When you select the C drive can you see files in the Soundforge window? Of course the easy answer is to load the CD after you start Soundforge. |

Hello, "How many cd drives do you have? " I have one optical drive. "I have a D dvd/cd play only drive and an E cdrw drive. When I open a cd in Soundforge 6, I can either choose open and select the drive or chose "extract from CD", which is the option I prefer to use. " I am using SF7 browser tool. I know how to view contents and extract data from anywhere using SF6. "When I chose that option I can select to look at either the D or the E drive. If I put a CD in the E drive and the D drive is selected it's as though no file is loaded. I have to chose the correct drive (Do this once because Soundforge remembers the last drive selection until you make a change) and in the window the files contained on the CD are shown. I have auto start on for both drives and have had no problem with that option causing any problems for Soundforge." Hmmm ok " When you select the C drive can you see files in the Soundforge window? Yes absolutely, any directory is viewable except for the contents of a CD, until I cycle the drive.Once the drive is cycle during an active browser viewing period, then the contents appear immediately. "Of course the easy answer is to load the CD after you start Soundforge. " Yes you are correct, and that is essentially what I am doing to avoid the delay. Thanks Bob Marvin, your comments are appreciated. |

One last question, after you've loaded the cd in the drive, if you go to my computer and look in the d drive can you see the contents without recycling the drive? Just trying to see if it's a drive problem or a sf7 issue. |

Hello Bob Marvin and forum, I welcome all comments and questions, therefore you need not make that your last one. "One last question, after you've loaded the cd in the drive, if you go to my computer and look in the d drive can you see the contents without recycling the drive? Just trying to see if it's a drive problem or a sf7 issue. " After I have loaded the CD in the drive, and go to My computer and explore the contents of the media in the bay, the data is shown immediately. That is why I suspect SF7 to be the issue here. Once more I dont have to cycle the drive, once I right click and choose explore, the data is imediately presented in the browser window. When I start SF7 with the CD rom in the bay, before the initialization of the program, then the contents never show up until I cycle the drive. Thereafter every CD is accessible as would be expected in the SF7 (ALT+1) browser wndow tool. However If I start SF7 first and then put a CD in the drive, then it proceeds as expected by displaying the contents immediately once the ALT+1 browser tool is requested. Speculating on this matter is tempting, since it seems like it is a sequence dependent problem and then it goes away if and only if one of two conditions is satisfied, as stated in the above remarks. It is not a big deal, but it is some what odd. Thanks again for your interest and comments. Kevin *** |
