Hi there,
from today i can't record properly with Acid 4.
I start on recording a track but when i finish the session i find only few seconds of recorded material.
The recording leds works well and everything seems to be allright until i find that i've recorded only 20 or 40 seconds
of a 4 minutes good piano solo or smashing vocal track...
Could it be a number buffer file related malfunction ?
I'm not sure but maybe i mess it up something there time ago.
What should have to be the correct number for my system?

PIII 999 mhz
512 megs
Win 2000
80 gigs 7200rpm dedicated
Mia audio 24/96

Thanks in advance
Bruno

Hi Bruno,

Weird. Did you try to see if you can extend the rightmost edge of the take's event? (Hover your mouse pointer over the right edge, click and then drag to the right.)

Did you try deleting the existing event and then paint in an event in its entirety? (Hold down CTRL on your keyboard with the Paint Tool active and click anywhere in the timeline.)

Hi Iacobus and thanks for your reply.
Yes I did it.
If i try to paint entirely the take's event the soundwave appears
uncomplete.
I mean that the square block follows the way driven by the mouse pointer but the wave stays there where it finishes the music .

Is the file complete when viewed in Sound Forge (or any other application)? Is it ACID's recording or playback that is causing the problem?

You could try holding down shift+ctrl while starting ACID to set ALL preferences back to installation default.

If this fails, try (re)installing the latest ACID update (ACID Pro 4.0f) and maybe even reinstall DirectX. (Uninstall before reinstalling). Versions 4.0, 4.0a-d were pretty buggy.

No way...I tried to reset Acid and I did it but with no result.
I recorded ten test tracks:
sometimes the recording stopped after 14 seconds
other time after 43
28,58 an so on randomly...the best result i had was 1minute and ten seconds
of recorded material.
Notice that i was used to record with no limits until after yesteday....

Have you installed anything since you had your problem?

Try uninstalling/reinstalling both ACID and the Mia's drivers.

No way...
I re- installed Acid 4 f again then latest Mia driver too.
Sometimes things seems to go better (5 minutes of time recorded or more)but the next session i can record only 30 seconds (and on and on...)
I've noticed that while recording stops (the time record display stops at a certain time) the rec leds and the recording pop up panel continue on working as everything is going well....
Any idea?

It could be a disk space problem. Windows should be able to work even with a highly fragmented drive, but when the write head is having to move large distances to write small fragments of data, this may cause a buffer overflow, though I imagine you'd get an error message to let you know this. If you've already uninstalled/reinstalled ACID, you could check your IDE/ATA/Bus Mastering (eg VIA 4 in 1) drivers and try freeing up some disk space and defragment your drive (R click the drive in My Computer, select Properties>Tools tab>Defragment now). It's worth doing this as a matter of routine anyway.

If all else fails, probably best to backup, scrub your c: drive and reinstall from scratch. That's my best offer I'm afraid!

As BFB mentioned, if things are still going kablooey, you might want to consider a brute force method and reformat. Once you reinstall and update Windows and update any device drivers (including your soundcard's), install ACID only and try recording.

Guys I have no words for your disponibility and kindness, thanks!
I've already defragged and scanned the HDs,and even cleaned the desk, the chair, the pc keyboard and the mouse with no results.
So I made an important decision:
I got back to Acid 4.0 and, believe me ,I'm happy again...
Bye
