Subject:Why won't SF7 let go of closed files?

When all open files are closed in SF7, why does the system still tell me that these previously open files are still being used? I can't delete them or rename them until I close Forge. Once closed, shouldn't Forge just "forget" about them?

I've been struggling with this one for a long time now, hoping it's a bug that'll get fixed.but I'm starting to think that someone at Sony believes it to be a "feature". Does it have something to do with the way it runs with Vegas? But it happens even if Vegas is closed or not used in that work session.

TIA

What kind of files can't you delete? I can't seem to repro the problem. Any file (like a WAV) can be deleted along with its associated SFK file.

I've tried doing it through Windows itself and through Sound Forge's Explorer, both successfully.

Be sure to give it a moment before trying to delete the files.

i can repro it, to a certain extent.

in SF, open a file (which is placed in a directory), then close the file but leave SF open. now open windows explorer and try to move the entire directory to someplace else. you'll see a warning about some files being in use by another application, and even tho the file does get moved physically it will not remove the directory it was residing in, and you'll see the warning message. so in the end you have an empty directory, as all the files have been moved. you can only remove the dir itself by closing SF.

1. Is there a specific file format that you are experiencing this particular problem?

2. Make sure that the "Keep media files locked preference" is unchecked. This is in the File page of your preferences.

1. .wav files only, regardless of bitrate or sample rate. a folder of mp3s for instance moves flawlessly.

2. the "keep media files locked" option is UNchecked in my prefs. the only things checked in the File subsection are:

- Automatically re-open file after Save As
- Delete temporary files on close
- Always proxy compressed formats
- Allow Undo past Save

to be clear, when i move a directory with SF still open it moves all the wave files inside fine, it also re-creates the directory at the target location. but at the end of copying i will get the following popup (dunno how to add image tags so i will just place the link here:

http://www.crookram.net/stuff/etc/err-move.jpg

it doesn't matter whether i edit/save the wave file or just play it without changing anything, merely opening the file and closing it again will lock the directory.

for me it isn't a problem per say, since i rarely move anything with SF still open. yet it seems weird SF would behave this way. i can live with it, but i'm always happy to help you devs with finding ways to spend time debugging code. ;)

edit : forgot to mention, running SF 7.0a

OK, I can repro that, but that only. Moving the file (or files) itself poses no problem; it's only when I try to move the folder the file is in.
