How does the Rec Monitor work in SF7? -Sound Forge - PC

Posted by: DaSoundGuy Date:2/2/2004 9:42:34 AM When SF7 came out, I complained that SF7 no longer had a recording monitor function (it used to be a switch in the recording dialogue). Someone replied saying that in SF7 record monitoring is always enabled by default when entering the recording mode. However, in all this time, I still haven't been able to make it work, no matter what I/O is specified in SF. I have an RME Multiface as well as the on board system audio (SoundMax on P4P800-E). Nothing seems to be output by SF7 on any hardware device while the rec dialog is up. Any suggestions? DSG

Or did you mean that you wanted to actually to hear what was going on while recording? If so, that's up to your hardware and how it's configured. (And I'm quite sure the RME Multiface could do it.) I have a Multiface and recording under SF7 behaves just like under SF6 with the Monitor box ticked - the meters in the record dialog indicate the level of the incoming audio on the selected inputs. (I usually use Analog 1&2, but you could use any of the Multiface's inputs in principle.) If you want to monitor the incoming audio aurally, just set up a mix routing on the HDSP's mixer that feeds the incoming audio to the line/headphone out on the Multiface. You can set up a custom routing if you like, or just use one of the preset routing arrangements - I normally just click on the number 2 preset routing which sends a mix of every possible input and output to the line/headphone output. Indeed it can.

I have a Multiface and recording under SF7 behaves just like under SF6 with the Monitor box ticked - the meters in the record dialog indicate the level of the incoming audio on the selected inputs. (I usually use Analog 1&2, but you could use any of the Multiface's inputs in principle.)

If you want to monitor the incoming audio aurally, just set up a mix routing on the HDSP's mixer that feeds the incoming audio to the line/headphone out on the Multiface.
