Subject:Changing voices of Soft Synth

Maybe it's because I'm a beginner, but I just cannot understand how to change voice (patch) of Soft Synth, for example, from piano to drum kit. I can see the list of DLS Soft Synth / GS soundset (16 bit) but i cannot change it, cause when I double-click at another voice nothing happens. What do I do wrong. Thank you for reading this message.

You should only have to single click, not double-click, a respective voice.

Is real time MIDI enabled? (There should be a button at the top of the Soft Synth Properties window.)

Do you have an event painted/drawn on the timeline for the respective track? And are there any MIDI notes in this event?

1. I got an event painted.
2. I wrote some notes in it.
3. Real Time MIDI is enabled.
But it still plays only piano. After single click nothing happens, it(click) just turns the name of the voice into blue rectangle, the list doesn't dissapear and nothing changes.

If you are using the DLS synth from Sony you will need to open up the midi track and in the OPT editor select channel 10 for the track channel, then you can hear drums. Once you changed that you will need to open up the DLS Soft synth and select channel 10 from the drop down arrow and then you will see the available drumsets.

The DLS synth follows the General MIDI specification. With the default GS voice set this means that drum patches are only available on MIDI channel 10.

You can however use third party DLS sound sets that load non-GM sample sets that will permit drums to be played on any channel.

Thanks, I managed to change channel from 1 to 10 and instead of piano got drum set, but I still cannot change voices (not channels) and when it is 10'th channel I cannot change drum sets, when it is 1-9, 11-16 channel I cannot change voice (plays piano and nothing else). What's wrong?
