I have one question. How can I just use the vocals from one of my MP3's, and turn the backround music off?

you cant.

no program can separate vocals from a backing track in a song. you need to realize that a regular 2 channel mastered song (any song pretty much that you download or buy on cd or listen to on the radio) is mastered to a "2 channel mix" meaning...all tracks are combined to one stereo mix. just imagine you are making a song in acid...
track 1 is a kick loop
track 2 is a high hat loop
track 3 is a snare loop
track 4 is a synth bass loop
track 5 is some sort of synth rhythm loop

when you are done arranging your song, you render your song to a 2 channel mp3 or .wav song and you burn it to cd. what you are doing is pretty much combining all those tracks into a stereo 2 channel mix.

afterwards, if you take that song, and want to reedit the kick loop, you will not be able to from the 2 channel mix because it is imbedded with all of your other tracks. the only way to edit the kick loop again is to reopen your acid project where you have the separate tracks, and reedit your kick loop, then render out your song againt o mp3.

it is the same with what you are trying to do. the vocals are imbedded witht he rest of the song, there is no way to bring just the vocals out. you can do some EQ'ing to bring the beats down (use a paragraphic EQ to kill the bass freq.) then when you put your own beats over the vocals there will be no clashing of frequencies and your beats will stand out. also, use some compression to "blend" everything together.
hope this answers your question.
