When I am recording from Wav, Wdm, CDs or other digital files that are on my computer directly to Sound Forge or when recording from the analog line in the audio sounds muffled. I am recording 16 bit 192khz my peak levels are right at the top without clipping. What might be causing this audio degradation? I am using a sound blaster live audio card and have recorded with it before using Sound Forge with no problem on another computer. And can currently rip and record CDs and mp3 on this computer in other programs with no problem at all. |

I believe the SB LIve is not capable of 192Khz - I don't think it can go beyond 48KHz. Even the 1st generation audigy couldn't record beyond 48KHz, only play back. |

I believe Colinu is correct. I heard the SB cards advertise 24/192 support, but only do so on the playback. Playback maybe limited too 16/48khz. Try taking the sample rate down within Sound Forge and see if you get better results. Also, if you are recording from .Wav, then I have to ask "why?". You don't need to record them, you just open them in Sound Forge. Also, what is "WDM"? I'm not familiar with this file type, this is a driver type for your sound card. Also, you don't need to record from a CD, you can use the extraction process within Sound Forge, probably with better results. |

WDM = Windows Driver Model. WDM is very effecient in all apps. that support it and doesn't have the sharing limitations of AISO. Latency can be lower than AISO in many cases, unfortunately Sony only supports AISO and MME while all other big audio players support WDM that I'm aware of, That said, latency is a non-issue in Sound Forge but Vegas... Red is right, the audigy 1 does only support upto 16/48 but the platinum and Z series cards do support 24 bit upto 192, however there is a catch to it in that the resolution DOES NOT improve the quality and whatever you input will not sound any better per sey. Might only be at a higher resolution which can often expose flaws that the original medium would mask - ie.: tape hiss that suddenly becomes accented through the dacs etc. try recording at 16/44 first and check the quality loss against that and up the rate from there until you begin to feel whatever degradation you might be experiencing last note: the current drivers from creative to allow higher recording rates as well as improved ASIO recording response. Might try those. |
