Is Acid Pro 4.0 able to record more than one track at a time? I'm thinking about buying a USB powered imput device which has four imput channels. Will this work?? Thanx

No. You need Vegas for that.

Not really. Chienworks is corrrect in that you can't record more than one track at time in ACID. You can record two "channels" (left/right) to one track, but they are not seperate tracks and ACID does not make it easy to seperate the left and right channels into seperate tracks.

Vegas is our multitrack app, not ACID.

So how do you multitrack in vegas? Say I want to record a keyboard, guitar, and vocal mic into the computer at the same time and have them go to their respected tracks? How would I need to configure it and what special hardware is needed if any?

You would need some sort of multlple input sound card. There are many available. Not to recommend any particular one (since i've never used one personally ... yet), but one typical example is the Echo Layla which consists of a PCI card that goes in your computer and an external box with 8 balanced inputs and outputs. It's not terribly cheap though, probably in the $500 range at least. If on the other hand you want to go dirt cheap you could add another ordinary stereo sound card in an empty slot in your computer and use that and your existing sound card to get four channels simultaneously. Two additional cards would give you 6 simultaneous inputs. Not an ideal solution, but it would be cheap.

You assign the input source to the track in Vegas - stereo, mono left or mono right.
You arm the track

Repeat for as many seperate inputs available on your sytem.

Hit record.

Depending on the number of inputs you have, you can have that many stereo or 2X mono tracks armed in Vegas for record.

Similar to what Chienworks said, there are some cards like the Delta series from M-Audio that are designed to be modular, so you can add another card down the line and have it all centralized via the Delta Control Panel.

You are, of course, limited to how many slots and resources you have free in your system.
