when I try to start Acid 4.0 it says scanning for audio plugins, then stops responding. Im using a radeon 9600, if that helps

update the driver for your video card. if still doesnt work, uninstall and re-install acid. i know it seems silly about a video card driver causing that, but trust me...for some reason, video drivers and audio apps cause havoc with each other.

Well, Ive re-installed it a bunch of times, and the new driver isnt working (my friend says its a beta)

So is there anything else? Ive had this problem before. I think I fixed it by moving files around, but whenever I do that it really messes it up.

anything else i should try?

When re-installing ACID, it's best to uninstall it first, rather than performing a maintenance run on it. Do this from control panel>add/remove programs.

Don't use beta drivers, they're usually buggy. There should be plenty of official drivers available for radeon 9600 by now. Just be sure you have the latest official release for all your cards (not just graphics), same goes for ACID (4.0f is current version). If you've a spare graphics card about, try installing it to see if that does it (if it does, at least you know not to waste too much time on your vga). Uninstall some plugins (newly installed plugins sometimes cause this problem), see if it starts, then try reinstalling them. Getting a bit last-ditch here... Try updating/reinstalling DirectX. Check for viruses.

If it still doesn't work, you're probably best refreshing your system with a clean install of Windows.

Do you have any VSTis installed? I think that a problem VSTi can cause problems like this.

This is most likely caused by a DX FX.

Do you know what DX FX you have installed?
Have you installed the latest rev of ACID 4?
Do you have the latest updates for DX from Microsoft?
