Subject:Drum Components (RADS) Question

I realize this borders on a "newbie" question, but for those of you who use the RADS Drum Component loops, can you please help me decipher the cryptic method of storing files in this system. For example, what the heck does 1^^^ or ^^3^ mean? The kick/snare folders are even worse. I'm not a percussionist, so I wasn't sure if this was technical jargon. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I don't have that collection. So they're labeled exactly like that? 1 with three carets immediately following? (1 ^^^) I'm not a percussionist either and I don't remember seeing such in percussion notation. Maybe it has to do with syncopation? Like a stress of the 1st beat of a four beat rhythm? (Likewise, a stress on the 3rd beat in your second example?) (A stress on the 1st and 3rd beats is typical.) Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page |

Emphasis. This particular library comes with a nice explanation book. I recommend reading it to take full advantage of it. |

Empasis is only part of the beauty. I am a drummer and I use Rads constantly to creat my own grooves. The numbers indicate on which particular sixteenth note a kick or snare lands. For example in the KICKS-K1 folder there is a loop called K1S4: this means that the kick hits on the first 16th note and the snare hits on the forth 16th note. A fundamental understanding of rhythm and note values is necessary to have an idea what is going on, or you can just keep adding files to a project to hear what is happening, then delete the ones you don't need. Hope this helps.Luces. |

Luces, Thank you very much! I have a good enough sense of rhythm to work with it eventually. I just had no idea what the numbers meant. Thanks again. You saved a wee bit of my sanity. Scott |

Hey there. Thanks for the info as well, loophead. Odd, though, I didn't receive the booklet with mine. I bought it brand new. Is your version the Sonic Foundry RADS collection or one distributed by RADs themselves? My Sonic Foundry version didn't have the booklet. Thanks again. Scott |
