Subject:How to adjust recording volume levels separately for each channel?

Hi,

I am using Sound Forge 6.0 (Build 132) and would like to know how I can adjust the recording volumes for each channel separately. I have some tape recordings that have unequal volume levels between the two channels (that I am trying to digitally encode).

Thanks in advance.

You'll have to set the recording level based on the hottest channel then adjust the channels post record.

You can select each channel independantly in Sound Forge. If you drag the mouse above the left channel 0dB line it will select only the left channel. Likewise, dragging below the right channel 0dB line will select only the right channel. You can also use Edit / Selection / Set (or Shift+Ctrl+D) to bring up a selection window, choose All Sample Data, and pick a channel. After you have a channel selected any Process / Volume adjustments (or most anything else for that matter) will affect only that one channel.

Kumar wanted to know how to set RECORDING levels differentially.

This is entirely up to the capabilities of your soundcard mixer applet. Many are permanently ganged, some aren't. Double-click the little speaker in the systray to find out...

Thanks all for taking time to address my problem.

Yes, my soundcard mixer applet is ganged:(. However, I am going to try what Chienworks suggested, barring that, what mjhig suggested.
