Subject:Acid Fader/Volume Level Issues

My system is a P4 2ghz 1.5 gig Ram running XP Home.
My Sound Card is an Echo 24 2 channel using the latest Mia driver update -but fot the record I experience the same problems with the standard audio card that is on my motherboard using the Soundmapper driver.

I am using Acid to sequence midi and integrate loops as well as one shots to create a film score. I have a small multi media-size version of my film in the video track for reference along with it's audio in one channel.

I am using The following VST instruments (not neccesarily at the same time):

Spetrosonics:
-Atmosphere
-Stylus
Native Instruments:
-Reactor Session
-Absynth
-Kontakt
Steingerg:
Virtual Guitarist
The Grand
Halion String Edition

I have all of the recent updates for the above.

I have been having the following problems with Acid 4.0f:

(these problems are consistant between my two sound cards and with each of the above VSTi 2.0 compatable intruments)

Erratic fader/Volume Level control on midi tracks and VST instrument busses:
-Track Faders often effect other midi tracks - even when not selected. You pull one down and the others volume come down (not the faders but the volumes)
-Track Faders have erratic behavior durrng playback. When you play from the timeline the volume will be too low to hear a track even with the level set at 127. Then durring playback if you re-ajust the fader the volume pops back up. But once you hit stop and play again it repeats - the volume too low and I wind up having to "ride the fader" durring playback to be able to audit my take.

-VST busses have erratic behavior durring record and playback of midi. If I set the level durring a rehearsal of a part that I am to record against other midi tracks or audio one shots loops etc. so that I can hear it in the mix, the volume pops too low to hear once I invoke the record button.

Often this volume then remains low even after I have canceled or stopped record, though I have the fader set to 127 on the VST buss and I can't hear the instrument well enough - without ajusting other volumes to compensate but then it will radomly pop back up again practically blowong out my speakers so I have learned NOT to just crank up my master volume and reajust but rather figit with faders untill it decides to return to normal.

All these little things are maddening when on a schedule - not to mention interrupt the creative process!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

RC

You're not alone... I experience similar problems, as do many others. ACID's midi functionality is not exactly great. This is definitely a problem with ACID.

I can't say that this bothers me too much, as I render all my midi down straight away and work with the audio, but it's a shame you can't rely on ACID for a solid midi performance.

This may be a job for "Dear Sony...", but I believe they're already on it, and we should hope to see greatly improved midi at least in ACID 5, if not before.

Yea me too. I render stuff pretty much right away once I have finalized it mixing - I should clarify-is not a problem. I do find work-arounds but I was hoping by chance there might be something else I am not doing or is conflicting.

By the way do you ever try to record Midi after a tempo change?

I get very strange results. Pretty much as if the midi file was recorded in the original tempo so that when placed on the time line by Acid - post tempo change where it is recorded (record from position selected by the way not from start of project) - lets say if you had changed tempo from 70 to 140 as a mathmatical example your midi file would play back twice as fast as you recorded. Get it? Because it is as if you recorded it at 70 but it is now on the timeline at 140. Never mind that's where you recorded it at the new tempo.

Am I clear?

I hope so.

Any experience with this?

Thanks,

RC
