ACID is looping software, not recording software. You can record with it, but that is not it's strength.

Download the demo and an 8 pack or a remix project from acidplanet.com. Then you can see if it is for you.

I use it every day for professional projects and I I love it!

If you've gotten to grips with Screenblast ACID 4 (or SF ACID Music), then ACID Pro is more than worthwhile to buy. I say if you don't know computer sequencing/engineering very well, then go for the cheap option first, as ACID 5 is bound to be out by the time you get to grips with it, by which time, you should know what you're doing, and it'll be worth the extra money for the extra features.

Like DKeenum mentioned, if looping is your thing, then ACID is right up your alley.

To add, you can indeed, record, but only one track at a time. ACID is not a multitracker; Vegas has that title.

However, if you plan on creating loops from recorded takes, this can be an ideal way to create those loops in ACID.

If you have to choose a version of ACID, go for ACID Pro. Though more expensive, ACID Pro has abilities far and beyond those of Screenblast ACID for creating loops of your own design. (Stretch markers come to mind especially. You'll rarely find a professionally-done loop without custom stretch markers in them.)
