What options do we have for a plug in midi editor for acid? The piano roll is fine, tho totally not as easily user friendly and intuitive feature packed as I have come to expect from Sonic Foundry, but for drums the piano roll just doesnt cut it for me.

OPT (open plugin technology) which was the "exciting new architecture" (actually old and developed by yamaha) that would allow 3rd party vendors to develop better midi functions for acid 4.0 never took off. What does this mean to you? Find a better sequencer.

There was a company who did some add-ons (not sure if they did a drum editor) who folded up. Perhaps someone will post a link for you.

Best of luck, I personally find the VSTi and midi implementation in Acid to be sub par at best with other sequencers on the market.

I sit on the side of the fence where folk believe that 4.0 should have integrated rewire (SLAVE) and left the sequencing, and vst functions up to the able host of choice. Instead we have half-assed thrown in functions that probably drove away more business than it drew in. But in SF defense, it was during the Sony transition period that they released this, so who knows what was going on internally.

Flame on.

You could be right :)

But after seeing Vegas and SF, can you imagine what an elegant, simple intuitive MIDI functionality SF could have made? Im still holding out hope

AGREED! Sonic foundry was my first, vegas pro 1.0. But I had to migrate my host app to SX to take advantage of midi. And I still use Forge.

off topic, but I just think things really got screwy before Sony took over, and that's understandable. Too bad they threw 4.0 out to the public during that time.

Have you tried the old GenieSys OPTs? Unfortunately, the company is no longer in operation but you can find copies for free here:
