What's up All.

I have Acid 3.0pro.

I'm in the recording vocals stage and I'm a little unsure as to how to stack vox, and XF and pan them.

I have tried several different methods but I seem to come up short.

So, I was hoping to get some suggestings from you guys.

I'M DOING HIP HOP VOCALS

I'm not sure how many times I should have the artist stack them for the verses and how many for the chorus and how I should effect them so the rapper doesn't sound like a choir but sounds like one individual with a strong voice...Did I explain that right...hope so?

And I'm not sure how to XF them, I usually just use compression..But how much should I use.

.I even delete the default TRACK EQ XF that comes on the track when you record...should I be doing that?

I only have the plugin's that came with the program...however, I know it has to be a way to get a professional sounding product with these plugins...I hope

and help you can give is great appreciated. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

its all about what sounds good to you.

usually 3 vocal tracks is enough.

as for FX on vox, Compressor/EQ/Reverb...stuff like that work wonders.

What is your recording set-up? What is your mic and preamp and sound card?

Remember that you can zoom in on the tracks and edit them. You can even line things up by deleting little segments or "split at curser" and moving them.

I have a Mk-319 mic, Aliesis Tube pre amp and a Creative Soundblaster Soundcard (external)...I have a laptop.

I also, have a question about levels....you know you can adust the volume of a track two ways...they have the multiple cross fader on the track OR you can select the envelope and there's and option right next to the pan feature...which one should you use.

should you try to keep the multipe cross fader at 0db...what about the master fader for the entire mix...0db also?????

Check out a few of the 8 packs and see how they handle levels and pan. An hint would be to start out at something like -6 to -10 db and adjust from there. Your master sould end up peaking at -1 or -2db. Your going to see some differences in opinions, but that is a good place to start. Do a search or 2 in this forum on recording and you can pick up more info.

I'm a little worried that your sound card is going to end up causing you some frustration. It was not designed for recording. But maybe....

Which Sound Blaster external audio interface is it?

You might want to record at least in 24-bit if you're not already doing so; there's more acoustic headroom in that bit depth and is ideal for vocals and other acoustic-type material.

Looks good. I just want to say, however, that Creative stumbled last time with the Audigy 1 debacle.

Also, the only reason why I wouldn't go with such a choice is because I like having something that does one job and one job only (which would be audio) and doesn't bloat my system with unnecessary software I'll never use. That's just a personal thing though.

If you're looking for other pro audio interfaces: M-Audio and the Indigo series and LAYLA Laptop from Echo.

If you want to make your vocals sound strong and full, look at Ozone. Its a mastering tool but it does a great job on single tracks.
