i have acid pro 4.0 and it works fine on my computer with win 98 but i got a new computer with windows xp and the serial number is invalid. does anybody know what the deal is? thanks

Acid doesn't recognize the new PC Identification number. Therefore it refuses to run. It's an anti-piracy safeguard. If it's your own copy and you registered it with Sony (or Sonic Foundry), call customer service and they'll set you up.

Your original serial number will work, it's the activation code (received after registration) that won't. If you use your original serial number, you'll have to re-register--but you'll be up and running without any trouble.

It's too bad that the computer ID changes with every reinstallation of Windows XP; as I recall, it stayed the same from install to install on the same computer with Windows 98. Frankly, I miss that behaviour, but it's not worth leaving XP for...
