I've seriously been thinking about buying Reason. I tried the demo and I love it. Any opinions? Are you happy with it? Any advice? ACID 4.0f is my main app.

I bought Reason last summer and still haven't unlocked a fraction of it's abilities! The Redrum, Malstrom, Advanced sampler, and Advanced Reverb are worth the money alone. The Malstrom synth really inspires me. You can get a whole lot of weird s**t out of that thing! The only thing I don't like about the app. is that it a closed system, so don't expect to utilize any plugins or put any loops into the sequencer unless they are Rexx loops. I mainly rewire the instruments into Cubase or Acid and that works out nice. A definate buy!!!

reason, in my oppinion is THE BEST app out there. and trust me, ive used em all. i have produced complete remixes from start to finish just using reason. ALTHOUGH, acid in conjunction with reason, give you possibilities that are limitless (literally) and just to make a quick note...you CAN run a loop (.wav) through reason. although, it is MUCH MUCH better to sequence your loops through acid, or convert your existing .wav loops to REX loops in recycle!
buy it!!!!!! but be prepared for a LAAAARGE learning curve (at least one year)

The only bad things I hear about it is that it has a particular "sound" that veterans can recognise. Also the effects are generally not considered too great.

Alternatives to consider are FL Studio 4, Orion Pro and Tracktion - all open VST systems which you can then use with the huge number of excellent freeware devices out there.

Are there any rewire issues? Any problems rewiring acid and reason?

Also, have any of you used one of the books that teach reason? How about the CDrom/

i have yet to have ANY problems with acid and rewire (knock on wood) the only problem i had was my own stupidity on an install of something. i did buy a reason tutorial, it helped IMMENSELY!!!! i strongly recomend getting it if you buy reason. its called "producing music with reason" EXCELLENT cd rom tutorial. as for the reason program itself, one simple word...AMAZING!!! if you can think it, reason can do it. and there are sooooo many free patches and sounds and refills out there that youre sounds are limitless and infinite!!! reason 2.0 comes with a FREE upgrade (downloadable) to 2.5. EXCELLENT new sounds and rhythm machines (a new vocoder was added that is simply phenomenal) wow, you'd think i designed the program or something!! :)
acid and reason together give you every possible tool at your finger tips, literally. it just takes time and creativity to unlock the possibilities!! good luck, lemme know if you have any specific questions...

I've been an avid Reason user since the beginning. I was a beta tester before the initial commercial release. The app has grown in scope and performance with every release. I have to disagree with the statement that... " it has a particular "sound" that veterans can recognise." presets yes but the sound in general no. What with the ability the texture/layer synth sounds, pads and loops even a preset can take on totally new essence and form. The original FX weren't great but have been greatly improved with the addition of some new FX. The other mentioned appz are great in their own right, and I've used them, but in my opinion they don't compare with Reason. As far as stability and responsiveness nothing comes close. I've tried but have never been able to crash Reason, I get 2ms latency, even running Rewire in Cubase SX3, and Sonar 3 Producers Edition. I have to agree with the statment about being a closed system VST/VSTi would be nice but it would no doubt affect the stability, so Rewire into Cubase and you've got all the VST/VSTi, plugins, etc...imaginable. If only Acid would "SLAVE" into Cubase, Sonar, along with Reason that would be heaven. Get Reason...Level Vibes
