Subject:Where can you learn about Acid ?

I just picked up a copy of Acid 3.0 on sale but have no idea how to use it. What would you suggest as places to start? (websites, etc on the basics) Thank you. :) |

I'm after the same info. I'm a Vegas user and am working on a doco at the moment where my budget for music is not high. I've got a demo of Acid 4.0 and want to have a mess around to see whether I can get the hang of it before I buy it. Any pointers to online tutorials for beginners would be most welcome. Cheers |

I forgot to mention ACIDfanatic.com. They have a couple of tutorials there, but you have to register (which is free). They're near the bottom of the home page. You can ask just about any question you want about ACID here. I (and the other good people here) try to answer when I (they) have the free time. ACID will most definitely help you in the music bed department. You can certainly use loops in Vegas, for example, but since Vegas is a true multitracker, it won't timestretch them to a specific tempo for you (or key stretch for that matter). This past weekend I was at my local MicroCenter store and found a Sam's book: "Learn Acid 3.0 in 24 Hours". It was the only copy they had but it contains 24 one hour lessons and includes a CD with all the loops you need for the lessons and lots of other sample loops. It also contains demo versions of all the Sonic Foundry software. It contains a lesson specifically on using ACID to score a video. Seemed like a good purchase for $25. I tried to find the same book on Amazon.COM but had no luck. I'm a noobie myself and just got Screenblast ACID 4.0 to use for video soundtracks. Rick |

You might want to be cautious with "Learn Acid 3.0 in 24 Hours". I'm running Acid 4.0f on XP Pro, and I cannot open the projects that come on the CD. I've tried everything I can think of including a reinstall of XP with no other apps but Acid. According to the knowledge base, there was a bug in some versions of 3.0 that prevented saved projects from being opened. Perhaps this version was used to create the CD and that's why I can't open them? Any other suggestions for tutorial material? I'm also very interested in this. Any comments about the Ronnie Rokk videos (http://www.acidvideotutorials.com/)? |

The book's projects work for Acid 3.0. I don't know about 4.0. I used the book and found it a great help. It would be nice if someone did the same for 4.0. Maybe there was not enough money in it. |

"Learn Acid 3.0 in 24 Hours" Excellent "starter" book! I bought it from Amazon.com for about $7 which included shipping, and it was in MINT condition. The CD was included. As mentioned earlier, it comes with a demo of Acid 3, which can be safely installed alongside AP4. You can then open the projects. |

I've tried installing the 3.0 demo alone and alongside 4.0f, and both cases I get the same behaviour. When I try to open a saved project on the CD, the progress bar shows 2 seconds, then Acid hangs and I have to kill the process. I get this behaviour even after doing a clean install of XP Pro, running the latest version of DirectX, video and sound drivers, and with no other apps installed except Acid. |

I am able to open the projects in Screenblast Acid 4.0 - though on some I do get a warning message saying some of the features saved might not be available - so far that hasn't been a problem. I am using XP. Rick |

I would seriously doubt that you would have much luck opening the Acid 3.0 tutorial (or the program for that matter) since 3.0 is not XP compatable - (I think) - there shouldn't be any problem opening 4.0 in XP, however. You may just want to start from the help screen (have it open as a smaller window in front) when in Acid- I had real good luck learning the program that way (it works... trust me... I'm a 'tard) & then using the online forum for whenever I got hung up on something - the user group is extremely helpful- there used to be some 3.0 tutorials on the SF website as well. |

Hmmm... I've got Acid 2.0 running alongside Pro 4.0 on Windows XP Home without a glitch. No problems with the samples loading except for the typical " project was made using previous version of Acid, bla, bla, bla". You just clic on OK and it loads fine. Mohenly...Have you tried copying the project files to your hard-drive just to make sure it isn't your CD-ROM causing problems? M |
