Subject:BIG problem for recording

I have a Lifebook Fujitsu-Siemens C-1020 connected to an USB audio interface Edirol UA-5.
When I start recording, after a while, the computer says that the "Microsoft sound mapper" does not exist and the recording is stopped.

The same problem occurs with the USB interface UA-1A. The light goes off after a while and recording is stopped.

I really DO NOT know where this problem comes from.
I've very mad because all is brand new.

Any idea ? Any solution ?
Otherwise, I will throw the computer away and buy a Roland Digital Studio...

Tired of computers and software, whatever they are !
I want to create music, not loose my time solving recurrent problems...

Thanks !

I'm Windows XP Pro / 256 MB
It's a brand new computer with nothing special...
I don't understand what's happening...

Can't you specifically select the UA-5's drivers on the Audio tab under Options>Preferences on the menu bar?

Don't know about the UA-1A. (That's a simple audio interface that uses generic drivers, isn't it?) It almost sounds as if the USB port is being screwed with somehow. Does the USB controller the USB port is on share any resources with any other device in the system?

Yes, it's very strange...

The recording stopped after 30 seconds.

Then, the exact error message is (when I press Play) :

An error occurred while starting playback. An unsupported media type was requested.
The playback device EDIROL UA-5 does not exist.

I have found out where the problem comes from !

The problem
While recording, the laptop suddenly ignores the USB audio interface Edirol UA-1A or UA-5, telling that the device does not exist. When the interface is unplugged and re-plugged, it works again.

The solution
In the power options, I changed the settings from "Laptop computer" to "Desktop computer". I have worked for several hours, recording and so on, without any problems.
I'm careful when I say that this is THE solution, but I'm quite sure it is.

Regards

Ah. Could be something to do with the USB port and power saving.

Good to hear you have it sorted out. :)
