I have the Sony-Vegas ac3 Plugin since yesterday and I an doing my first DVD with Dolby 5.1. I have rendered a .wav file to 5.1 and when I look at the ac3 file I see: Channel 0 Front Left wave form peaks Channel 1 Front Center nothing, straight line Channel 2 Front Right wave form peaks Channel 3 Rear left wave form peaks Channel 4 Rear right wave form peaks Channel 5 LFE I need help in setting this up. I'm new at 5.1 and just guessing about setup in the "Surround Panner" too. I'm not sure what to put into the center audio track (in Vegas) to get it to show when I display it in Sonic Soft encode. |

If you click on (& open) the surround panner you will see a slider for the centre channel. This by default is set to "inf" & will be silent. Drag the slider to set master db for that channel relative to the other front cahnnels. |

OK now which of the wave forms should the center channel be "both" or "combined" or "left or right"? Also for nominal out put to 5.1 which db settings are best for each of the channel's? As I am new to 5.1 any help here would be great. |

I don't have a copy of soft encode , my comments about the centre channel level are for in Vegas. Ideally if you have seperate dialogue , effects , music etc channels you are going to be panning your dialogue channel to figure highly on the centre channel, sound effects (bullets flying past for instance) will be keyframed & panned for movement around the sound stage far more, background music may be be a little more balanced left & right (not overdone to the rears in my opinion). It is all very much personal taste & dependant on what you are trying to achieve as to what levels you are going to want everything at & I suggest you preview it out from the Vegas timeline. |

I am only using Soft encode to preview the wave form to see if I do have the center 5.1 channel. So far with evertyhing I have done in Vegas it still is a flat line (no volume) the surround panner for the center channel says it is at -32 db. That is why I think I'm still doing something wrong with it I will eventually get it figured out, thanks for your thoughts |

Thanks vonhosen, I have it licked now it wasn't the DVD it was a setting on the reciever I run the DVD set top player through that was blocking the center channel. It came through eventhough Sonic Soft Encode showd it as a flat line. |
