Can an Acid saved file (saved with embedded audio) be imported into a Protools LE (Windows XP / Mbox) session for further editing?

After all both Protools and Acid 4.0 use .wav files on XP..

I just thought of doing all the loops etc in Acid then exporting to PT, and mixing it down in there? any ideas????

if im understanding your question correctly, the answer is yes. you can export your whole .wav project to any independant audio editor. you can do it track by track or the whole rendered project. in your preferences just make sure you have pro tools set as your external audio editor. now, when you right click on your audio track you will have an option to "edit in pro tools" (or whatever other editor you may have. hope this answers your question. if im totally off the mark with what you were asking, give a little more detail.

Yes i suppose that would work,, but i meant as in :

1. Do a whole song in Acid with loops, one shots etc.

2. save as (with embedded audio?) so that acid saves the song with all the sequnced wav files as loops/one shots etc.

3. Open Protools and load the acid song into it so that the same loops/ones shots are sequenced and appear in PT, then just type in the BPM i was using in Acid, INTO PT and they should all be as they were in Acid, But now in PT, so i can edit them a little more, and mix them in the PT Mixer?

I think your idea was good, and i didnt think of that, but i believe your way is only one track at a time?

Also i did try your Editing to Protools - by making Protools one of Acid's editors like you mentioned (protools.exe file) also did this with Soundforge 7.0 as my 2nd editor

I can edit in Soundforge, but the loop in Acid which is say 12 bars, only appears in Soundforge as the original 2 bar wav file and NOT the Acid loop of 12 bars?!?!

Also it Doesnt export at all to Protools LE? even though its set up the same as Sforge - What am i doing wrong?

help!

When you save an acid project with "embedded audio" as you say, Acid is not saving a .wav file. It's just saving all of the different audio files in the project in the same folder as the Acid (.acd) project file. Pro Tools can NOT open .acd files.

If you want to work on your Acid project in Pro Tools you have to click render and then in the rendering dialog box check the box next to "render each track as a separate file". Then open Pro Tools and import all of the .wav files to different tracks all lined up from the start.

Adding to what doctorfish has already said, the reason why your ACID loop appears as a 2 bar file in Sound Forge is because no stretching is being done is Sound Forge; it takes the file at face value.

No. ACID cannot save to a project format that PTools can read - i.e. OMF.

You can render your ACID project to a single or multiple files and then import these for use, but that is all.

Seems to me it would make more sense to ask the ProTools people to support Acid files as an import. But, since it's a proprietary format, I suspect that won't happen either.

Basically, unless you render the tracks as WAV files, ProTools would need to have Acid embedded in its software (or emulated in a way that's sure to violate Sony's copyright/patents/etc.) in order to do what you're asking.

Importing/exporting a AAF or OMF is something we have looked at for our apps. We are looking into the pros/cons of doing this.
