Second post...first post seemed to disappear from the forum. New to sound. Reading the manual there are numerous formats...WAV...AIFF...WMA...RM...MP3...etc. Is there anyone who can clarify what each is used for? Or can you direct me to a source for explanation. Thanks. |

I bet a google search with those in the search line would give the answers. I will help a bit. I only use a few formats, thus I don't have all the answers. WAV is a non-compressed audio format. As it is non-compressed, it is lossless. That means you can make changes without loss of quality. It is the standard music format on CDs and the native working format of SF. WMA is Windows Media and is proprietary to windows. Other software will play it on macs, and some editing programs and the like can open and save in wma. rm is real media, same as above except for real media instead of microsoft. MP3 is a lossy compression that greatly reduces sound file size, but has some loss in sound quality. as a final process, this can make moving long files very much easier. It should only be used last, as any changed to a compressed file will result in re-compression and further loss of quality. Ok... that is all I think i know. RiRo |
