Subject:Guitar Bass Emulator?

Hi All,

I play guitar and want to be able to record bass parts into ACID with my guitar...
This should be a piece of cake, as a bass is just the bottom 4 strings of a guitar down a few octaves, right?

On my TASCAM BR-532, there's an effect which effectively turns my guitar into a bass. (but then I have to get it into acid and synch it up...pain in the @#%$) Is there anything that folks know of that can do this via software?

THanks!

Rick

Bass is also a different size string and different body type, but yes the tuning can be the same as the bottom four strings of a guitar in standard tuning. So it's not the same as just shifting the pitch down there are other things to consider.

However, anything that can adjust the pitch without affecting time can do what you are asking. Sound Forge can do this with the Pitch Shift function. Not sure if there is a pitch shift FX in Acid ... I don't have a copy of Acid on my work machine.

If I need a bass line of some sort, I usually use my DigiTech GNX2 (which is an effects processor) and a custom patch somebody created that sounds really convincing.

You mentioned you have a hard time with the BR-532 and ACID. What exactly is the problem? How are you recording?

The BR-532 has an effect that emulates bass timbre using your guitar. I'm a super novice with the BR-532, so I don't even know how to get a click track going at a certain beats per minute and record my bass part without recording the click trac, too.

So what I did was play the ACID song on headphones and play the "bass" along to it on the BR-532. Then I played it back and recorded it in ACID. Couldn't get them to synch up (perhaps that's what MIDI is for?) right and the bass was WAY slower than I recorded it at. ACID let me restore the bass to the original speed, but then all the other parts were off.

Maybe I just need to buy a cheap bass!
