Subject:4.0e to 4.0f?

Greetings All,

I downloaded (eventually - dial-up modem!!!) the 4.0f update for Acid Pro the other day. When I tried to install it I was first 'told' that a number of files were already present and did I want to overwrite?

On my first attempt I said yes only to get "An unknown error has occurred"

On my second attempt I said no to all. The installation continued until the 'status' was at the 'copying files' stage when I got "Error 1335: cabinet file 'mcplug.cab' is corrupt, etc., etc." and I was given the choice to 'cancel', 'retry' or 'ignore'.

I clicked on 'retry' a few times but to no avail, then I clicked on 'ignore'. The installation continued again until another box flashed up on the screen "Error 2350: FDI Server error". Again I was given the choice to 'cancel', 'retry' or 'ignore'.

Yet again, I tried to 'retry' without success and so clicked on 'ignore'. However, 'ignore' also kept throwing me back to the error box until I clicked on 'cancel', which of course cancelled the whole installation.

My PC is set up as a dual boot system and my 'Studio' partition doesn't have an internet connection. Could this be significant? Should I try uninstalling and re-installing Acid (from the original CD) before installing the update? Has anyone else had this problem with this update?

I have tried using the knowledge base but my problem doesn't appear to have been covered, so I'd be grateful for any advice or information.

TIA

One Love, Spy!

don't know if it will help, but you can try deleting the temp files from the previous installation, as they don't get removed automatically after the install.

go to this directory : C:\Program Files\Sonic Foundry Setup\ACID 4.0, and delete all the files in there. then run the 4.0f update again. the update will place its own files in the same directory, but as it is empty it will not have to overwrite anything.

if you still get errors i guess the file you downloaded got corrupted during the download (not impossible with a dialup connection), in which case you'll need to download it again.
