some of my samples sound really weird and choppy.

I can get them to only sound good at original tempo (I think in one-shot), but there's no way to make 'em sound right at much faster BPMs or in other keys.

they sound bad no matter what, but they sound BETTER in beatmap with forced divisions at 64th notes than at whole notes. for "stretching method" they sound better as "LOOPING SEGMENTS" and worst as "NON-LOOPING."

I tried every possible setting and kept getting that choppy sound.

this just happened with a sample bpm rated at over 200, in a project of 126.181. Is there ANY WAY to get this sax sample (originally recorded slowly in low C) to sound ok as much, much higher notes, or I am just screwed?

so the project tempo is ~126 bpm and the sample is ~200 bpm? this difference in bpm is way too much for any sample to sound correctly. ACID can only handle up to 10% (i think) above and below the original bpm of the loop without completely screwing up the sound, dependant on the kind of sound in the loop.

try halving the amount of beats the loop has. so, if it's now 16 beats then set it to 8 beats. the loop's bpm will now drop to ~100, which is much closer to 126 and should create less artifacts in the sound.

the flipside is that your sample will now be played twice as fast. if that's simply not an option i don't think there is anything else you can do to get the sample to sound good. but you can still try experimenting with the number of beats of the loop.

Hi Chips,

Extreme tempo changes will usually produce artifacts, especially if the new tempo is slower than the original.

Have you tried adding/adjusting stretch markers? More info on the subject can be found here.

There could be a reason why you're having trouble: If a sample is really short and was originally a One-shot, ACID is recalcuating it as a four beat Loop. That means if the sample was say, a total of almost 3/4 of a second at four beats a measure, it would have to fit into a tempo of about 300 BPM.

If you don't mind, I'd take a shot at ACIDizing that sample. (You can email me via the links below.)
