I have a 51. project to which I want to add a vocal dub assigned to the left and right rear speakers. The vocal dub was recorded in stereo so I broke it into two mono files, left and right. When I pan the left mono file to the left rear and the right mono file to the right rear using the Surround Panners, the mono file play out of the Left Front and Right Front speakers even though the Surround Panner shows the file are correctly assigned to the rear speakers. Other mono file in my mix were handled in identical fashsion and pan correctly. I know my 5.1 surround monitoring is working perfectly, so that is not the source of the problem. Can anyone help me with this problem? |

Correction... This is not a problem with the AC-3 encoder. It plays back the files correctly assigned to left and right rear speakers. It is the playback using Vegas through my Creative Etigy surround sound system. I was using Micosoft Surround Mapper. Shifting to Direct Sound Surround Mapper solved the problem. Sorry for jumping the gun. |

You may want to keep your original stereo file, and just pull the panner back to the surround channels, but centered between the two. I think you may have some phase issues if you try putting the same mono file in both, or at least you risk some phase issues. It's safer just to pull the stereo file back to the middle and let it pan left right on it's own. |
