Need your advide about burning a DVD in DVD A with surround sound 5.1 separately rendered from the video (two files as you described originally) but I am confused about how I get both files to be recognized in DVD A for burning. I was told by someoine in the DVD A forum to place the video in the DVD A project timeline and drag and drop the ac3 file on top of it as the video event would be surrounded momentarily by a red border. That is what happened but there was neither audio present in the preview mode of DVD A or when I burned the DVD. Can you assist me as to where I am going wrong in DVD A? Thanks!! |

I don't use DVD-A (though I obviously have it.) Do this render your video to the MPEG-2 template for DVD Architect. Then render your AC3 audio to the 5.1 surround for DVD template. ** Make sure they are the same file name ** i.e Myvideo.mpg & Myvideo.ac3 Then follow this edited advice from the DVDA help files. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Add a file to your project by doing either of the following: 1) Double-clicking a file to add it to the current menu. OR 2) Dragging a file from the Media Explorer to the top portion of the DVD Architect workspace. **** Select the Automatically link similar audio and video files check box on the General tab of the Preferences dialog if you want DVD Architect to look for and link audio files with the same base name when you add a video-only file to your project. **** For example, if you had a video-only MPEG file (MyProject.mpg) and an audio file (MyProject.ac3) in the same folder, DVD Architect will automatically use MyProject.ac3 as the audio track when you add MyProject.mpg to a menu. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hope that helps. |

I found out what was happening in my setup in DVD A project screen. The window was sized incorrectly hiding the audio and video file selections for the project. How stupid but it was really confusing me. What authoring program do you use? Do you render with VBR higher than 10Mb with an average setting of 6Mb? Is it necessary to in your opinio to render any higher than this? Again, thanks so very much for all the great support!! Jerry |

The maximum combined bitrate for DVD is 9.8Mbs. Even with my audio as AC3, to make sure the decoding isn't going flat out I don't find it necessary for the maximum setting to be above about 8.0Mbs. I will then set the average setting with VBR to a setting that will allow me to fill my disc using the following formula for 4.7Gb discs. 600/total number in minutes of video in project = average combined bitrate for video & audio. ie 600/90mins of video = 6.6mbs average bitrate for video & audio so 6.6mbs - 448kbs (for 5.1 ac3 audio) leaves about 6.1Mbs for video. When encoding video I will then have max setting 8.0Mbs & avg setting at 6.1Mbs for a project containing 90 mins of video (including motion menu lengths in this equation if they are used) I'm currently using Canopus Procoder to encode MPEG-2 Video, Vegas to encode AC3 audio & currently ReelDVD & Pinnacle Impression Pro to author DVDs (until next version of DVDA arrives). |
