Every time I start Acid I get the message:

"AN ERROR OCCURRED WHEN STARTING ACID. THE REASON FOR THE ERROR COULD NOT BE DETERMINED."

I click OK, and then everything in the program works fine.

???

I get the same message on my new (clean) Windows XP installation.
Re-installing ACID doesn't make any difference.

System:
Athlon XP 2100+, 1 GB RAM
Windows XP SP1
Creative SBLive with kx-drivers
Creative Audigy with Creative drivers
ACID Pro 4.0f

For Windows 2000 and XP (and better):

Check your Event Logs for any errors occuring BEFORE the "generic" error message.

You should look for the exact generic error message you are getting in the Event Log and then work backward from there.

I'll check for what error messages I'm getting, and post 'em when I find them.

FLEYRRAH: We have the same OS (I'm using XP pro SP1, with all the updates), AND I also have creative audigy equipment (Platinum EX).
I'm still running ACID 4.0e tho, wanted to make sure no one was having problems with F. (Is anybody, by the way?)

Fleyrrah: does your acid run fine, except for this error message? ...I get it most of time, not all, and it only started recently, like in the last week.

Do you by any chance run Hotburn Pro? Have you done any system restores around the time the problem started?

curious if our error messages will be the same.

Have you disabled fast user switching on your WinXP computer? This could be the source of the error message.

If that is the case, the message is harmless. You can either enable fast user switching so you no longer get the message, or just live with that error at startup.

Nope, never disabled fast used switching. (I double-checked to make certain.)

Have you, Fleyrrah?

WINKY: ACID runs fine, except for the error message. I don not run Hotburn Pro. There are no relevant messages in the event logs ans fast user switching is disabled.
After installing a fresh (clean) XP installation + drivers I have installed ACID as one of the first applications.
I also had the same problem on a previous XP installation, but in that case not right from the start (but as this was a test installation there were too many changes to determine after what change the problem started happening)

Fleyrrah,
I think the Sony tech meant fast user switching should be ENABLED, not disabled. (mine defaults to enabled) If you've disabled yours, try it the other way, might solve the problem.

Strange: I didn't get the error message at all today. Do you always get it always or just sometimes?
My Acid's been working pretty well, except for the message. (and a couple of crashes) I do notice one thing: Lately, I've been deleting and moving files alot (probably over 100x in the last few days), which always gets me an ACID ALERT message. No biggie, I just click, IGNORE.
Doing this so much seemed to foul up the app a little, tempoarily. (the crashes and the error message).

Anyway, good luck with the app. Pain to always keep having to doing all this extraneous clicking, I know.
