Subject:SF 7 wants Directx 8, i have Dx9

I don't under stand why this won't work. I'm trying toinstall SF 7, but it says i have to have directx 8, but i only have 9. It's beyond me why they would make a program that needs an old version when you can install Dx8. Makes no sense. What the hell is one to do? |

Surely there's a fix -- did you try looking throught he knowledge base? Sonar 2.2 gave the same message but Cakewalk had a fix posted on their website. |

Perhaps your DirectX files are corrupted. Try running dxdiag.exe (in the system32 folder). Does the DirectX Files page say "No problems found"? I hope this helps, Suzan |

I doubt it's corrupt, i just reinstalled windows lastnight. |

If you just reinstalled Windows, you will need to reinstall DirectX. A fresh install comes with DirectX 7. SF7 requires DX8 or higher. DirectX is not installed with service packs. HTH |

Acidchild, please try running the dxdiag.exe in your WINNT\system32 directory as Suzan suggests. What is the exact version and build number of DirectX? Are there any problems mentioned on the DirectX Files page? Thanks, Steve |

Also note that in Win2KSP2, anything 24 bit may be being truncated to 16 bits. Wasn't fixt until SP3. geoff |
