Subject:Editing a Loop

Hello,
If just the snare part in a loop is too loud, is there a way to only bring that part down a little instead on the whole loop? Is there a special tool for this?

Thanks,
Al

Depending on how much else is going on, you could split the loop around teh snare and drop the gain on that one portion, then resave. Of course, if you have anything else going - including decay of other instruments - it's gonna sound bad.

Is this a loop you created? If so, can't you "do it again?" Also, most drum libraries come with OneShots, so you could copy the beat and remix it to your liking.

Adding to what Jess said, you could apply a volume envelope to just that part of the loop. (Note that ACID Pro has the ability to use volume envelopes only. ACID Pro 4.0 has a "hold" type of envelope as well, which creates a quick change in level.)

From there, you could then render the results to a new track. (Be sure you check volume levels across the board, from the track level to where the envelope is applied. It's all included when rendered.)

Or you could do it in Sound Forge. Only, make a copy first.

Right-click an envelope segment between two envelope points of differing level and choose "Hold".

A Hold basically has no curve; it abruptly changes from one level to another without having to add multiple points to achieve the same effect. (A nice feature to have, especially when instantly panning from one stereo channel to the other, for example.)
