acid is good if you want to make "simple" beats. its not designed as a "beat box." it is designed as a sequncer. (to sequence existing loops and/or one shots, synth sounds, vocals...things of that sort) BUT, it is possible to lay down a simple kick loop, or kick/ hi-hat loop. when you bought acid, it should have come with a loop cd. there are like 4-500 loops (also one shots. which is what you would use to make your own loops) on those. if i were you, just load a bunch of loops into acid and start playing around. see how acid works...how it stretches samples, key changes, tempo markers, vst plug-ins (which, by the way is where you can download a plug-in vst to make some SERIOUS BEATS!) there are a TON of vst plug-ins for synth sounds, drum machines and so on. (fruity loops, kontact, absynth, atmospheres) just a few examples. fruity loops would be my suggestion for you. it is VERY easy to use and you can come up with some really serious sounds in it. i think its only like 30-40 bux for the full prof. version. just DIVE RIGHT IN. but learn the basics of acid first. i wouldnt worry about making your own beats yet till you learn how to use the sequenceing functions of acid. which is 90% of what acid is designed for. but, dont worry...the learning curve on acid is very quick. just take a few days off from work and you should be all set!!! :-) --marc |

i feel you im gonna start messin with it a lil more but rite now i get beats from other poeple to record on.so i load it into acid and record over it.now i hear everybody talkin about mpc 2000 and motif 6,sayin wi would need those peices of hardware to make some killer beats.im bout to get a book on music terminology so i could learn more about the terms taht producers use so ill understand it better.but would i be better off gettin a zoom multitrack recording studio and if som can i use that with acid or how does that work |

i have an mpc2000. dont get me wrong, its a great machine....but i havent used it in prob a year. i can do everything software based now that i could do with that machine and every other hardware machine combined (well, almost) i use acid in conjunction with reason. (reason is a propellerhead product) if you are interested in making your own beats and synths in a professional environment, i would SERIOUSLY look into REASON. to answer your question, of course, having hardware (motif, mpc, zoom, things of that sort) are great to have. BUT, i hope you have a VERY deep wallet. my mpc cost me like $1500. i bought reason for $399 and its an mpc2000, motif, korg, multi tracker, effects machine, midi controller, drum machine, EVERYTHING all wrapped into one package. i have been using it for about a year and a half, and i know how to use about 20% of the software. in other words, reason in conjunction with acid gives you a whole studio worth of hardware worth hundreds of thousands of dollars wrapped into 2 software packages and one computer!!!! youd be surprised how many producers (famous, big names) out there barely touch a piece of hardware in the production process!!! its almost all software based now. (once again, not knocking hardware...its just mucho expensive!) good luck, ask away if you have more questions. --marc |
