I have a small issue & am not sure how to get around it - I can use multiple busses in Acid Pro 4.0 but, when I try to assign an effect (wave hammer) to the master bus I have skipping problems - I have plenty of ram still available (23 out of 512 MB being used) Is this the sound card ceiling that I have heard about? I have a Soundblaster Audigy EX - would switching to an echo mia (or something like it ) help?

inserting effects is more "processor based" not sound card or memory based. why you are getting that skipping, is, in my oppinion, totally unrelated to your sound card. sound cards are not like video cards with their own built in or on board memory. what processor are you using? if it is relatively slow or an older processor, that can be a lot of your problem. it is not a function of your memory. memory is used for playing music samples loaded into it. not for "processing" effects. i would bet the farm you are on a lil bit older of a system? maybe win 98 or ME.?? if so, look into upgrading your op system and or processing. your memory is fine. let me know the specs of what you have and such. maybe i can help a lil more.

Wave Hammer was not really intended as a real time FX, being a mastering plug-in and all. (No mastering plug-in for that matter is meant for a real time environment.) No matter the power of the system, you are asking a lot for the system to do, especially when using 24-bit.

You can certainly use it in that capacity, but note that what you get away with will all be dependent on your system setup.

(BTW, it might not be your soundcard itself but the drivers that may be part of the problem. Creative's drivers, for the most part, were not really optimized for intensive music making like Echo's or M-Audio's are, and much like Echo's or M-Audio's drivers were not optimized for games.)
