Since the release of Sound Forge 7, I was wondering if 6 was still available anywhere. I've tried the demo for 6 & 7, and based on that and the comments I've seen about 7, I would prefer to have 6. Does anyone know where 6 can be acquired? Cheers, Rogue One |

A quick search of ebay.com for "sound forge 6" returned 6 copies. It looks like three are the Studio version, two are the full version, and one is bundled with Acid Pro 4 and Vegas 4. |

Thanks for the info, Cheinworks. Didn't really think of Ebay when I posted this question. Rogue One |

"based on that and the comments I've seen about 7, I would prefer to have 6" Take the comments with a grain of salt. I'm sure you could go back in the posts when v6.0 was first released and see many bad posts about v6.0 and how everyone liked v5.0, because it had direct editing and v6.0 didn't. I haven't seen any of those posts like that for awhile now. The only real reason to go with v6.0 over v7.0 is that v7.0 does not run on Win95/98/ME platforms. The new features within v7.0 are priceless to me. If you have no use for these great feature over v6.0: 1. A Vu meter, which more accurately represents how your hearing detects loudness, allowing you to do more precise mastering leveling of different songs. 2. A sweep Generator, which allows you to generate any frequency sweep duration so you can use these waveforms for audio system analysis. 3. Noise generators, which will allow you to accurately tune an acoustical environment and also do analysis on other audio hardware. 4. Undo past save, which allows you to make a save, then hear your changes in your multi-track program like Vegas and if you decide you don't like what you did within the project you can freely UNDO and make tweaks. 5. Total undo history saved within the new Sound Forge project. Allowing you to do an entiring mastering session and recalling and undoing every process you did if you decide later you didn't like something. 6. Enhanced Spectral Analysis tools, allowing you to compare one files spectrum to the one you're working on. Another great mastering tool, when you are trying to get your sound to match what's currently available and has been professionally mastered. Which gives you great control of making precise eq adjustments. 7. Automatible effects/envelopes, allowing you to change effect parameters and, volume and pan envelope adjustments. Tons of use for this one. 8. Vinyl Restoration plugin, allowing you to remove clicks and pops within a recording. 9. Automated recording options. Allowing you to set a time for SF to start and stop recording...just like a VCR, when you're not around and want to record something. Also, a threshold start/stop recording. Want to record something and not sit there all day and listen for it. Let Sound Forge do it for you. 10. Drag and drop CD extraction from multiple CDrom devices. Have a CD burning tower and a bunch of CD's you need to extract the songs from. Put all the CD's into the seperate drives, select the tracks you want and walk away while Sound Forge handles all the work for you, instead of having to sit there, open the extract window...extract one song, wait.....remove CD, insert next, open extract window..extract...wash rinse repeat. 11. New explorer window, allowing you to manage and preview your audio files all within sound forge. These seem to be features that are more pro oriented allowing you to work more effeciently and giving you extra tools to do more precise processing of your files. If you're doing nothing but creating .MP3 files, then I agree...stick with v6.0, you'll be happy. |

My favorite is the addition of the F12 button play/pause:stop. Like in Vegas/Acid. Now no matter what has focus I can just hit this button and be off. I have it set as button 7 on my contour shuttle pro. Now for ALL my apps. God I'm happy now. Like I said before everything else is just gravy. Ed. BTW...HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYBODY!!! |
