Subject:Is it possible to network Acid?

Hey there. I was wondering if it is possible to network between computers using Acid? What I am thinking about doing is building a second tower to be strictly used for softsynths, in order to take some processing load off of my main CPU, but I am not sure what I need to get if it is at all possible. Ideally, networking would be preferred as opposed to just setting up another computer with another monitor and accessing via midi, but I'm not ruling out the possibilty. I really don't want another monitor taking up my already small work space. I primarily use SampleTank, but will probably invest in other soft synths soon. Does any of this make sense? If there are any hardcore tech-heads out there, please chime in! Thanks,Luces.

I've never used this but here is something you might look into:

You could probably do that, yes, but be aware that any audio being streamed between systems will experience latency of some sort. Your mileage may vary.

Personally, I'd go with the MIDI solution, since ACID Pro lets you send MIDI data to specific hardware MIDI outputs. That's just me though.

luceses,

i have networked acid before. in my oppinion, it did not do so good. i think i did it in almost the same fashion youre looking to do also. i have an older computer (athlon 700 mhz, 256 sdram, 60 gb hard drive, win xp pro) and i wanted to use it for a "dump tank" for ALL audio and midi information, networked with my NEW FAST computer. (wavs, music, loops, vst plug-ins) when i started to build up a remix through acid it was just getting WAAAY to taxed on the network hub. and latency was, well lack of a better word, a BITCH!!! you need to remember....any loops or samples you use wether on a netowrk or separate hard drive are inserted into your timeline, once they are inserted into your timeline they are resident in THAT machines memory. NOT YOUR SLAVE MACHINE!!! so, my reccomendation is NOT TO DO IT!!!! get yourself a new hard drive that will help you out A LOT!!!!! if you keep everything audio related on one hard drive and all your other programs on another!! (boot drive has op system and all audio apps. second (slave) hard drive has all your other "bs" programs. ie., aol, micrsoft word, adobe photoshop, what have you...) this got rid of all my headaches and made working with audio MUCH MUCH better!!!!
hope this helps....

Thanks for the tips! I was not aware that it was cool to install "secondary" programs on the slave drive. I was always told that any ".exe" should be put on the main drive. Marcarotsky, just out of curiosity how large is your average project and what is the main resolution that you work with? It's funny b/c my second machine is EXACTLY like yours was. Anyhow,I will continue to think about my options. I suppose I could just get a faster processor. I have an AMD 1800Athlon XP, but my mobo only supports up to the 2200 XP. Oh well, thanks again for the suggestions. Luces.

i dont have any problems with programs on my secondary hard drive. they load maybe a split second slower, but nothing unbearable. it is dependant on your bus speed on how quick they will load. if you are running an athlon 1800 your bus speed is i believe 333 mhz. which is a lil slower than mine of 500 mhz. (i have a P4 with 500 mhz front side bus) also, make sure your hard drives are 7200 rpms. MUCH BETTER PERFORMANCE WISE! my average prject is about 14-22 tracks. (before bouncing of course) and i use standard cd resolution 16/44.1. it performs like a hot knife through butter!!! and i use TONS OF PROCESSOR TAXING EFFECTS!!!! no "choking" at all!!! (knock on wood!)
