Subject:Best CD Media for Audio Cds?

Why do some audio CD's I burn play perfectly in CD players and some don't? They'll play fine in my computer and SOME CD players but not others.

Is it the fault of the media? (I was having problems with Memorex discs and have had better luck with Sony.) Will I maximize the chance these things'll play if I burn them at a slower speed?

Older cd players don't seem to like CDRs. I think it has something to do with the laser tracking and the fact that CDRs use dye rather that the actual pits in a real CD. Could that be the problem? Different dye, maybe?

Burn speed can have a lot to do with it. I always burn audio CDs at 4x. Just about every CD i burn at this speed on any media plays on just about every player flawlessly. As soon is i go up to a higher speed the playback failure rate climbs quickly. At 8x the discs will skip in about half the players i try them in and some players won't even recognize them as audio discs. At 16x about half of the players won't recognize the disc. These results are pretty consistent across all the media i've tried and all the burners i have access to.
