Subject:Wave Hammer GONE in Vegas 4 upon upgrade to SF7

I just upgraded to Sound Forge 7.0a (used Sony default directory). I cannot register it as Sony has yet (over 24 hours) to send me my serial number but now when I use my Vegas 4.0, Wave Hammer is GONE! I cannot find the plug-in anywhere. Any thoughts?

Interesting. I purchased SF7 yesterday morning and also haven't received an email confirm with serial #. Usually this happens within a few minutes of purchase (never more than an hour). Doesn't look like this part of the Sony transfer is working very well! ;-(

I just got SF7a registered and don't see Wave Hammer listed as a plug-in in any of my other SOFO/SONY programs now. Hadn't noticed it missing until your post.

Tried to open it in SF7a by clicking on it in the Effects Menu and received a popup screen asking me to buy it. I had the same issue with the MPEG encoder. Looks like another call to customer support.

Just how many plug-ins need to be activated?

I just checked and acoustic mirror is another one that needs to be activated. Sheesh.

UPDATE

I solved this problem by using the Migration Tools which are installed with SF7 (Start/All Programs/Sony/Utilities/Migration Tools). Now I have Acoustic Mirror and Wave Hammer reappearing in Vegas and Acid and activated in Sound Forge 7.

Migration Tools did not work with the MPEG encoder but they came through for these plug-ins.

Have you try the migration tools in the Start menu?

Yep. Migration Tools worked this time. My update to my previous reply and your reply must have crossed in the e-mail. Thanks anyway.

Any thoughts or success with the MPEG encoder?

I found that on installing Sound Forge 7 it disappeared from Vegas, and trying to save a file as an MPEG (1 or 2) within Sound Forge 7 brings up a window telling me I should buy the MPEG encoder!

I've informed Sony, who up to this point have been prompt with my other enquiries (such as link not working for the cheaper upgrade offer, and then no email confirmation of purchase of SF7, along with reg number; now sorted, thanks) but in the mean time I've had to roll back my machine to before I installed SF7 to get the MPEG encoder to reappear.

Thanks.

drbam,

I don't know why there was a problem with your e-mail confirmation -- if you haven't gotten it, please call Customer Service at 800.577.6642. (Wait a bit: they're closed for the next 40 minutes until 12:30 cst)

Unlike you I still had MPEG capability in Vegas after installing Sound Forge 7, I just didn't have it in SF7. The MPEG encoder would not work even after using the Migration Tools and un-and-reinstalling SF7.

I emailed customer support whose reply was for me to call their 800 number to receive an activation code which unlocked the MPEG encoder. They said I could also have emailed them my computer ID and they would have emailed me the code.

In the pop-up window that appears when you try to save to MPEG there is a "buy by phone" option. Clicking on that pops up a new screen that reveals your computer ID code and below it a space to enter the activation code. Using your computer's ID Code customer support creates an activation code for you to enter manually. Once the activation code was entered MPEG worked fine.

But as I said, I hadn't lost MPEG capability in Vegas after installing SF7, just wave hammer and acoustic mirror, which were fixed by the Migration Tools.

Thanks very much for that!
I shall email support my machine ID number, and I hope that this sorts the problem.
They have been very helpful in their correspondence so far, and suggested that I use the migration tools if I hadn't already. I tried that, and had no success, and this time, when I rolled my machine back, the MPEG encoder in Vegas had not reappeared.

But this should sort the problem, and thanks again for suggesting it.

Those of you having trouble with MPEG:

When you installed Sound Forge 7.0a, did you force it to install the application and/or shared components in a different folder.? You WILL have problems if you changed the install folder to Sonic Foundry.

Plug-ins such as MP3 and MPEG are not compatible with legacy SoFo applications. This could explain why you are now having problems.

Nope. I let SF 7.0a install itself into its own created Sony folder. I have no idea why Migration Tools didn't work.

I too installed SF7.0a into its default (Sony) folder.
On registering, it "knocked out" the MPEG encoder in Vegas, and trying to save a file from SF7.0a as an MPEG brought up the "you'll have to buy this" box.

I followed Rique's advice and phoned support (from the UK) and they kindly supplied me with a registration number after I explained the problem I was having.
Result: I could now encode an MPEG from SF7.0a but still NOT from Vegas which still could not "see" an MPEG encoder. In fact The MPEG 1 and 2 options disappeared from the format drop down box. Using the migration tools as suggested by support also achieved nothing.

As a side note, I could save an MPEG from Vegas when it was running as a demo; the word “Sonic Foundry” flashing up every few seconds in the rendered file. But after registering, the plugin would disappear again.

Finally, I uninstalled SF7. The MPEG plugin duly reappeared in VEGAS.
SF6e is now reinstalled, registered, and running happily, and everything is back to how it was before I originally installed SF7.

I now have a program I cannot (at the moment) use. But at least I am able to work.

Strangely enough, I have the MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 formats available as formats to save as in 7.0a, but I cannot save or customize at all. Clicking the save button brings me back to the Sound Forge workspace, while clicking the "Custom" button does nothing. Very odd...

I should note that I had Sound Forge 7.0a installed all by itself; no other legacy SoFo apps are installed. (I have Wave Hammer.)

OK, I now have my problem solved.

To do so, I had to reformat my main hard drive and reinstall Windows XP. (I also updated XP with SP1 and any other patches/updates needed.) Then I installed Sound Forge 7.0a first and registered its MPEG plug-in.

I then installed ACID Pro 4.0e and registered its MPEG plug-in separately. All went along fine.

I have no idea why it wasn't working before. I'm thinking something in the Registry went kablooey. (I hardly toy with the Registry.)

So, anyone that's desperate enough, try a brute force method and reformat and then try what I did. I know that it ain't easy to do (a second hard drive helps out tons), but it worked for me.

Hmm.
I'm reluctant to try a total re-format, especially if after all that, for whatever reason, it still doesn't work. (Oh me of little faith)

In the meantime I can survive without SF7.

I have found that if you UNINSTALL SOUND FORGE 7.0a COMPLETELY, and then run a Registry Cleaner (Norton works great), you can get your MPEG plugins back without re-formatting your hard drive. But, I lost my original software for SF 6, so I can't revert to a program that actually worked! Anyone help with a link and/or app?

I want my mp3......

Here's the e-mail I got from Customer Service:

Thank you for contacting Sony Pictures Digital.

Please un-install all Sonic Foundry/Sony/Screenblast software on this machine, using the Add/Remove program utility in the control panel. After doing so, go into the hard drive(s) that these applications were installed on and delete the folders listed as:

Sonic Foundry
Sonic Foundry Set-up
Sony
Sony Set-up
Screenblast

Then go into your start menu and select Run. Type in regedit in the field provided and press OK. Scroll to the top of this page and go into the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder and then the software folder. Please delete the Sonic Foundry folder here along with the Sony Media Software folder. Then please install Sound Forge 7.0 first then install the rest of the software. This should take care of your plug-in issue.

If the information provided does not completely answer your question, please update your incident so I may further assist you.

Sincerely,

I got mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 back by using the Vegas uninstaller and selecting repair instead of uninstall. I then used the Acid uninstaller and again choose repair. Mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 were then back in the selection list in both progams.
