Are they DirectX plug-ins? That's the only type Sound Forge will recognize. Also note that the full version of Sound Forge is the only version that can utilize 3rd party plug-ins. HTH, Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page |

You have to register DirectX plug-ins with the system. Just drag-and-drop the plug-in .dlls onto Sound Forge and click 'Yes' to register, then restart Sound Forge. If you are using 7.0, you will need to organize your DX Favorites or rebuild them to see them there, but they should show up in the plug-in explorer at that point, regardless. This is assuming these are free or shareware and do not require an installer program, entering serial numbers, etc. If that is not the case, YMMV. The previous message is correct. This applies to Sound Forge Pro and DirectX (DirectShow) plug-ins only. J. |

thanks for the help, mD and Sonic. i'm on version 6.0 of Sound Forge, but it is the full retail version. Sonic, when you say drag and drop the plug-in .dlls onto Sound Forge, what do you mean? Drag them onto the Sound Forge icon on my desktop? Drag them to the "shared plugins" folder? Might I have better luck using Acid with these? I'm on version 3.0 Pro on that. |

Open Sound Forge and drag the .dlls from Windows Explorer just as if you were drag-and-dropping a .wav file. If you are comfortable with command line tools, regsvr32.exe does the same thing. J. |

> i tried copying the .dll files to my "shared plugins" folder That sounds as though these are VST plugins, not DirectX plugins. Sound Forge can only use DirectX plugins, not VST plugins. If these are VST plugins you may be able to use them in Sound Forge by installing a VST-DirectX wrapper such as Directixer or the Cakewalk (originally FXPansion) VST-DX Adaptor. This wraps the VST plugins in a software layer which gives the plugin a DirectX interface so that a the host application that only uses DirectX applications can use it. Mark |

Thanks, Mark. You nailed it: They are vst plugins. I didn't know I couldn't use those with Sound Forge. I'll try the wrapper route. Thanks again. |

I didn't know you could drag and drop a .DLL into sound forge and register it. I've downloaded some of these free plugins before, and scratched my head on how to get them recognized on my system and ended up just throwing them into the recycle bin. We're learning all kinds of new things in here. :-) Gazercmh, You know you can now also drag and drop CD tracks from the CD rom and have them automatically extracted and opened into Sound Forge. You'll have to upgrade to v7.0 for that though. Thanks Sound Forge engineering team!!!! |
