Hi all, quick question on 5.1 sound. I know how to assign audio tracks to the 5.1 surround panner, and the LFE channel. My question is, how imporatant is the LFE channel? If I've got music tracks, should I assign them to the LFE, or should it be used for higher-quality sound, for instance like explosion noises or something. Cheers, Rogue One |

LFE Low Frequency effects I think the split point is somewhere round (or is) 80Hz. So I wouldn't say an explosion effect would by of more high quality than an given music track, it's just what you want to emphasise. If you want the kick to really kick in a music track (or the timps or orchestral bass drum) send it to the LFE. If you want an explosion to break your windows, send it to the LFE, but in both instances not *solely* to the LFE. As the LFE is used for frequencies below 80hz, it also doesn't relay much information above 80hz. As an explosion isn't only the boom, but also the sizzle on top, so to is the bass or kick drum composed of the boom (somewhere around 40-65 hz) and the "snap" around 200hz. So, after that waffle, I think the LFE is used to emphasise and enhance low frequencies, rather than being used *only* for low frequency sounds. Hope that makes sense... Thanks |

Yeah, thanks for the info there, Salv. So basically I use the LFE channel for any sounds I want emphasized, even if some are effects and music. Thanks again! Rogue One |
