Subject:Playback of higher res. wav files in Windows Media Player 9?

I can't seem to find the proper codec for files I've created in higher resolutions for playback in Microsoft's Windows Media Player 9 series. The error that diplays is the a format tag 1 is required for playback. I've downloaded the Audio Codecs 9.0 from Microsoft but that didn't help. Do I need this codec from some other vendor? TIA.

Unless something has changed very recently, WMP does not support 24 bit or above. I'm not sure about the highest sample rate but here's the website for one of WMP's developers. There is also a link to the MS newsgroup there where he answers questions.

The Windows Media Audio 9 Professional codec does support 24 bit audio. If you render to WMA or WMV, you can have 24 bit audio. You'll need to create a custom template for this.

I'd have to check whether WMP 9 can play 24 bit WAV files.

Yes WMP9 does play back 24 bit audio, in any compatible codec form including pcm and ac3.

go to the properties and select output device tab and select to play back in hi def/24 bit mode and you're golden

enjoy
