I am considering buying this DSP card. Anybody got first hand experience of how well it works with ACID ?

Thanks
Paulie

Just got mine 2 weeks ago...best cash I have spent in a while...and it works most excellent with Acid 4 Pro.

Search the archives. There was a lot of positive discussion about it some months ago.

I have one and it works quite well with Acid once you get it to work.
Some people have more difficulty than others to get it to work.
Search in the Vegas and Acid forums for discussions regarding difficulties. These include a host CPU "munching" problem and some IRQ conflict problems I had. You'll need an ASIO based sound card to get it to work well too (as I've heard from other posts).
Other than that, the plugins sound really great and offer sounds you'll not get from others.

Except for one issue(CPU munching), that purportedly, will be remedied in the forthcoming 3.3 update (due to be released shortly), the UAD-1 DX plugins work great in ACID 4. A few things to remember:

1) You need a good low latency(ASIO) audio card.
2) You need to be using ACID 4, because previous versions did not provide ASIO support.
3) You need to provide the UAD-1 with it's own IRQ. Sharing an IRQ with other PCI bus hogging devices will inevitably lead to performance problems.
(using WinXP (in Standard PC mode), I have both my DSP (UAD-1) and audio cards(Delta 66) assigned to their own IRQ's.

You won't find the professional sound quality that these plugs provide (especially the compressor/eq's) in any native plugins, that's for sure. You would have to use racks and racks of expensive vintage outboard hardware to replicate these babies.

One of the best investments I have ever made for my DAW. The automatic delay compensation works a treat in ACID too, when using the UAD-1 plugins. Unlike SONAR 3, the ADC in both A4 and Vegas 4 is so tight that you can loop all day long without the ADC causing dropouts, and still be in perfect tempo sync. Here is a great site for all things UAD-1 and more:

I'm a little late to the thread but if you want another response.

ACID and the UAD-1 work great together. I have yet to run into any problems while testing.

"ACID and the UAD-1 work great together. I have yet to run into any problems while testing."

Hey that's cool, it's comforting to know you (SONY) have a UAD-1 to test on :) The UAD-1 3.2 DX plugins and the core SONY apps do really work well together as long as you follow the advice in my prior post. With Sound Forge 6/7, I have never had a problem and I have created many Plugin Chainer presets with various combinations of PPI's for quick auditioning when mastering my stereo files. ACID 4 & Vegas 4 work almost as well except for the native CPU munching, which is most evident when using (7) or more PPI's (or more than 60% DSP load) in a project. Latest news from UA though, is that the next 3.3 update should address this performance issue. I am also looking forward to getting the new UA Fairchild 670 Stereo vintage compressor, which UA will introduce in the next 3.3 update. I can't afford the $30,000 dollars for the actual hardware one, but I'll gladly spend the $149.00 bucks for the plugin :P

Yes, Vegas 4, ACID Pro 4, Sound Forge 7 and the UAD-1 are a great combination,

uad + acid = greatness

got mine for $550 off ebay... brand-new/sealed, one of my best investments

cpu munching sucks though and i hope they fix it

sometimes i get drastic cpu spikes just muting and un-muting tracks which equals crash-city.

I just have to give credit, where credit is due. Using my beloved UAD-1 plugs in ACID Pro 4, is a joy to use, with full plugin delay compensation that actually works, with just about any plugin you throw at it. Even using the SIR plugin (wrapped with Cake's own latest 4.4.0.2, no doubt. This very latest version even give PDC to VST plugs), on an AUX Bus, along with (6) UAD-1plugins, I can set a project to loop a small (2) measure section and the PDC is still sync accurate and tight even after letting it ride for thirty minutes. In this same scenerio, SONAR 2 or 3 drops out, after the end of the first loop point. At best, SONAR will start to lose it's PDC before slowly crapping out and this is with just one UAD-1 plugin and/or SIR in a project. I have used up to (11) PPI's and even the SIR on an AUX BUS, in one project and ACID 4 NEVER loses it's PDC. Virtually, with any plugin the PDC just works. That can't be said for Cake's SONAR. I do remember over the years that Peter H and Ron K would have some spirited discussions over which was the proper way to use and implement DX plugins in a host app. Something about using "in-place buffering" or not. One of the reasons some Cake effects don't work right in SONY apps and vice versa. Well, after comparing the way the two implement their PDC, I guess we know who was right after all :)

Yes, using my UAD-1 & SIR plugs in ACID 4, with full working PDC, even with project looping enabled is a pure joy!
