Subject:audio CD's Clip WAV Samples!

I tried making an AUDIO CD not of my songs, but of a whole bunch of my WAV samples (LOOPS, etc). -- The CD got made, but each sample is abruptly CUTS OFF about 3/4 of the way thru, with a loud PFFT sound. Is there a setting I can change to stop this? *** I used WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER, with error correction on, recording at FASTEST speed. by the way: I make CD "Computer" copies just fine, but audio is tricky -- Is there a way to bypass MEDIA PLAYER altogether? I can't seem to, it always launches for an AUDIO CD, then is finicky to use. any info is helpful |

Fastest speed may be a bad idea, you get more errors at fast speeds. If you don't want to use Media Player then close it. ACID has a perfectly good ripping function built in. It will also burn track at once as well. |

Speeds such as 2x or even 1x are reliable (but are, of course, slow). ACID burns audio CD's, not data CD's. Burning WAV's will result in CDA's (the CD audio format). If you use Windows XP, it has basic burning functions for data CD's. It's multi-session too, so you can burn to CD-R's in subsequent sessions until its capacity is reached. I have software for CD burning, but they are a PAIN, always fighting one another to take over my computer. I just got HOTBURN PRO (with an ext. CD drive), but the settings won't hold -- I tell it to set to a lower speed and it "forgets" right away. ***QUESTIONS: Does XP ONLY allow for making DATA copies? (When I choose "AUDIO CD" in XP, it launches Win MEDIA PLAYER.) ***Am I safe using Hotburn or MedPlayer, and choosing FASTEST, but also choosing "TEST" and "Write to hard disk"? According to Hotburn's help file, this means Hotburn keeps lowering the speed until the fastest speed with no errors is chosen for copies. ***Very Important: is there a way to tell if my discs have been properly created without listening to all zillion samples, etc? (ie, can I get the software to "check" it's work?) Thanks to everyone for their help. |

-Basically, yes, when burning an audio CD, Windows Media Player takes care of that end, while XP handles the data CD aspect of it all. -You can certainly try those options. They should help. Another thing I forgot to add is to use quality CD media (a brand name such as Sony or Memorex). Don't use generic bulk media. -I don't know of an option offhand. I'm trying to burn a hundred or so small WAV samples/loops onto an audio CD (for listening on a regular CD player). When I use Windows Media Player, no matter what the settings, it cuts off a second or two of each sample. When I use HOTBURN PRO, for some of the samples it says "CAN'T COPY -- WAV IS TOO SMALL." But, even for the ones it copies -- at a slow speed of something like 8x -- It cuts off even MORE of the WAV endings than Media Player. Is this because the samples are so tiny? I don't have problems with regular sized WAV files... |

are you writing disk-at-once or track-at-once? TAO has a minimum track length of 300 blocks and a maximum of 99 tracks per disc. |

There is a minimum of 4 seconds of sound per track when writing to an audio CD. This is a Red Book standard and can't be bypassed. If your tracks (since you state 100's of files) are smaller than 4 seconds, you will have problems writing an audio CD. This won't matter if you're writing a data CD. There is also a maximum of 99 tracks per audio CD, so maybe this figures in as well. So, things to remember for an audio CD: 1. Minimum 4 seconds per track 2. Maximum tracks: 99 Hope this solves your problem. |

Thanks, Kryten, this seems to explain it. I thought it'd be cool to familairize myself with my thousands of WAV files, but the audio CD only records 99, etc... I may make a CD of my loops that are longer than 4 secs... Can anyone recommend good CD burning software? Iomega Hotburn Pro has an easy interface but I get alot of failures writing discs (even at low speeds). WinOnCD (by Roxio) is a little complicated to use. Creative Media Source (it came with my Audigy Plat 2 sound card) just doesn't work sometimes. IF I use ACID 4.0 to make an audio disc, does it automatically close the disc, or can I add to it later? --- Thanks to everybody for their help. |

ACID 4.0 will not close a disc until you tell it to. However, note that a disc that's not closed might not play in just any CD player. Roxio's Easy CD Creator and Ahead's Nero are pretty much the frontrunners for CD burning, whether it be for an audio CD or data CD. As a tip, stick with only one CD burning title.
