Subject:Acid 3.0f corrupting saved projects
Date:11/10/2003 8:30:44 PM

I am getting corruption of my ".acd" and "acd-bak" files after saving. The system will lock up occasionally due to my processor speed and abilities..I live with it untill upgrade...when it unlocks (and it usually does, I save the project (as .acd) and am usually able to reopen the project, but, occasionally I get an error message which renders the project unrecoverable. See Below:

This is typical of the message...
This message also can say the access violation is at AcidK.dll...I've gotten that more than not when the program crashes. Bear in mind it only crashes when I try to reopen the same project I was working on after a system lock...
Then the program says there is an unrecoverable error and Acid must close...hit the button and it does...
I have used the repair program, and although it may repair the program, it still will not let me open the corrupted projects...

Why???

I've taken to "blowing" to wave all the files that make up a particular instrument (drums, gtrs, bass, ect...(I record my own loops and use Acid as both drum sample editor (like Fruityloops)and as a tracking program (like Cubase)IE: no store bought loops)) and then dropping those into Cubase 5 (which runs very well on my system up to 16 stereo tracks) to keep from losing projects...can You help...

First, you may want to download and install 3.0g. See what this does.

Both OLE32.DLL and KERNEL32.DLL are system files belonging to Windows. This crash could be possibly caused by anything.

Are any programs running in the background? How long has it been since the system's been formatted?

The system was reformatted approx 4-6 months ago...I do that as a regular thing to keep windows from "clogging" itselt...when I reinstall windows, I do a custom install with only the drivers and files nessassary for the operating systems' basic use...my system only does audio...I run Acid3.0, Cubase5.0, Soundforge4.5, Cakewalk Efx, Event Efx, TC reverb and EQ efx, and Winamp (as a virtual jukebox)...a cheap burner (with EZ CD 95)...That's about it...no internet, no printer, no extras at all...The corruption seems to only occur when the whole system locks up...IE: no responce from user input. So, maybe it makes sense that the project being used is corrupted, because the operating system is only concerned with it's own self-preservation??? :)

Which operating system are you using? The later versions of Windows prevent essential system files from being overwritten, whereas earlier versions get their system files replaced, potentially causing the system to become unstable.

I've had one project become corrupt, but that was with ACID Pro 2.0. I haven't had it happen to me since. (Using ACID Pro 4.0, Sound Forge 7.0 on Windows XP SP1.)
