Hey all, i've been using Acid 3.0-4.0 and Forge 5.0 for about 2 years now, recently i have put together a full album of material to get produced in a short run digital press. Im at the last step, trying to get a nice clean master to send to the publishing company, here is the problem i have been having for the last month. -

I have burned about 20 disks to CD-Rs to get a clean master, but keep getting varying results. Each time I burn a master, I listen to it on several different audio systems, each takes CD-Rs, and get varying degrees of distortion and digital pops. The weird thing is, it is not constant, the distortion and pops happen at different times and places on the disk during different listens. Eg. I listened to 8 songs in a row the other night, each sounded perfect, then on the 9th song, i started hearing popping, skipping and distortion. I take the disk out, clean it, then put it back in, now it is popping and distorted on the first track. I play the CD-R in my other player, and it sounds fine for 4 songs, then i hear an audible hiss rising in the background, getting worse as the disk goes on.

I've been at this for about a month, i have tried buring from ACID straight to disk, I have tries making WAVs first them burining, I have tried mulitple types of disks of varying quality, I have tried lower recording parameters, etc, nothing has worked. I keep getting the same distortion problems, but never in the same spot on the recording. It does not seem to be a problem in the file itself, for when i listen to the WAV on my computer it sounds fine.

Any ideas, help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thx
Brian

are you burning directly from acid?? if so...DONT. bring it into an editor like sound forge or even better, cd architect. obviously run through your entire mix and make any adjustments to eq and so as needed. i was in your same position before. burning directly from acid, for some reason doesnt give ANYWHERE near "redbook" specs. (which is what you need to send to a publication company for a master). CD architect will burn to red book specs. any sort of problems it finds in your tracks, it will alert you to. i have had nothing but success from cd architect.
hope this helps.

Even Easy CD creator does an accepable job. If you've tried that then you're going to have to look at your CD recorder.

Very odd.

I imagine you're using quality CD-R media?

Other things to try are to burn at a much lower rate (2x or even 1x should work) and not do anything while burning your master.

You might also want to look into seeing if updated firmware is available for your CD burner.
