I can usually get one track down, sometimes a few more... but generally every time I hit record to record a second track the system freezes up... the program and my driver are updated... my system exceeds the requirements... has any body else experienced this problem and can it be fixed? Thanks... |

Acid is designed to loop. That is it's strength. Vegas is for multi-track recording. You can get around this by editing a track down to a series of one shots, but it's going to take some work and probably Sound Forge. I wonder if acid could be developed into a multi-track recorder without losing it's looping capabilities. I don't know. I really like what acid does. |

hdjeffers and Sin, could we have info on your hardware? Maybe there's a link in there somewhere? I can record to my heart's content as many times as I want. My (rather meager) setup: ASUS CUSL2-C motherboard PIII 800EB MHz 384 MB PC133 SDRAM Maxtor 40 GB UltraATA 100 7200 RPM (for programs) Western Digital 80 GB UltraATA 100 7200 RPM (for digital audio) M-Audio Audiophile 2496 (latest supported drivers) M-Audio USB Duo (also latest supported) ATI Radeon 32 MB DDR (AGP version) Windows XP SP1 ACID Pro 4.0e Build 408 Note that each device in my system has its own IRQ—no device shares resources. I know some somecards (both consumer and pro-level) don't like to particularly share resources even though Windows says everything is A-OK. I can make suggestions as to how to free resources if this is the case with you. HTH, Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page |

Yep! This happened to me a few times when I started recording on Acid rather than just Looping. I have XP and have found that the best thing to do before u record is to unclutter your system. ie, switch your window sounds off, ensuring your soundcard is not trying to look after too many jobs at the same time, ensure that no other progs are running in the background and always do a fresh reset / reboot before u go into Acid - this last point is a must - especially if u or anyone else have been on the pc before hand. Always watch your HD light and make sure it settles down before u continue with anything else. These may seem like common sense rules, but since treating my PC "gently" when recording on Acid - its been good back to me!!! |

lacobus... thanks for responding... I'm not sure I'm "computer-smart" enough to get you the info you need to help me... but I do know that my sytem greatly exceeds the Acid requirements... I'm using an Echo Gina sound card with the latest driver... I emailed the support at Sonic Foundry and they gave me a long list of programs to shut down but the system continued to freeze up... then they told me to switch from the ASIO driver to the Windows Classic Wave Driver and so far that seems to have solved the problem... just haven't worked with it long enough yet to feel confident. |

The ASIO drivers could be the problem; ASIO can be touchy sometimes, as Delta users found out with ASIO and ACID 4.0. (M-Audio acknowledged it was their fault and have since fixed the problem.) Iacobus ------- RodelWorks - Original Music for the Unafraid mD's ACIDplanet Page |

Hello, Funny I should read this today because I accidently solved this same problem this afternoon... after weeks of the same problem ! I had almost packed up my gear in frustration. After two sound cards, two system restores, and my computer being tested for days at HP, all the problem ended up being is switching from the ASIO driver in the preferences, to the Windows Classic Wave Driver! Not being all that convinced the problem was solved (you lose your trust fast), I did about 75 consecutive audio recording takes in two sessions with no freezing problem. I did not even have to lower the hardware accl., reduce the color res., turn off monitor indicators, ect. I do shut down unneccessary background programs via the task manager to keep the cpu down. Good luck. |
