Subject:Firewire or Hard Disk?

Can anyone suggest the recommended media storage/throughput source for audio and video for use with ACID? Is a firewire PCI Card limited by system bus speed? Is an internal or external SCSI or USB drive preferred? Thanks!

id say just purchase another 40gig 7200rpm hard drive.

then put all your Wavs/Video/Acid Projects on there.

thats what i do :)

Actually, from what I've heard, an external USB 2.0 or FireWire drive is pretty comparable to an internal 7200 RPM (since newer models are also 7200 RPM as well), though not quite as fast as 8 MB cache buffer models.

If anything, I'd probably go with a 7200 RPM, 8 MB cache model with 9 ms or less of average seek time. EIDE may be preferred as it's fast approaching (and exceeding in the case of Serial ATA) SCSI speeds. You probably won't find anything external with that size buffer cache right now but keep a look out.

Western Digital drives of 40, 80, and even 120 gigs with the 8 meg cashe are now on sale if you keep a look-out for them.

hard drives that are 7200 rpm are about twice as fast as their firewire counterparts....

but firewire is great for backup!
