I've setup a partition using W2K3 Server and installed my version of Acid Pro 4.0e .The installation seemed to go o.k. and when I start the program I get the splash screen but then it disappears and nothing happens. I have experimented and installed Acid pro 3.0g and that works fine but no go with 4.0e. Does anyone know of a solution?

Martin

I think that there are a bunch of updates, and patches you can download to make server 03 stable enough to run music applications, but you're better off using winXP, seeing as that is what all of those patches and updates do. I haven't read anything that would make me want to try server 2003 for anything other than server applications. But its hard to say

None of our software is designed to run on Windows 2003 Server.

Did you pay full retail for Windows Server 2003?

It's working now... the sfdlssynth.dll was causing the problem so I removed it from the Acid folder.Everything is fine now .
Hi vanblah.... I am using the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Evaluation Kit. It's a 180 day trial version. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/evaluation/trial/default.mspx
Incidently I'm a registered user of Acid Pro 3&4 Soundforge 5.0 and Vegas Video 3.0. It's all great software.

I'm having the same problem, and while getting rid of that dll allows Acid to start up okay, it won't let me play anything. Even a simple WAV file.

Reasons to use Windows 2003 over WinXP Pro:

XP Pro's philosophy is to enable every service by default and treat users like they are children. How they could attach the word Pro to an OS that contains a puppy dog search helper is beyond me.

2003's philosophy is enable the bare minumum of services and allow the user to enable only the ones required, and assume the user is a "Professional". This makes for a much more secure, stable, and responsive configuration right from the start, whereas I have to spend hours fixing XP every time I install it.

I use 2003 for everything. I have 3 versions of Vegas running (at the same time) along with dozens of other apps and video games. Why on earth wouldn't Acid work? Is there a service I need to enable? I am a software addict and I swear this is the first application that has even blipped on Windows 2003. I even tried restarting the system, which I haven't had to do since before Christmas.

Thanks for any help! :D

I was able to fix the problem by simply installing DirectX 9b.

Thanks again. The people on this forum are awesome.
