Woooo! I was actually the first to post one of these for once. :)

7.0a is available for download now. It includes Vinyl Restoration. Too cool!

Anyone have FULL details of exactly what 7.0a update contains? I do not see any Release Notes posted on the update site.

Best,
Dan

Notable Changes/Fixes in Version 7.0a
An ExpressFX Vinyl Restoration plug-in has been added to help you remove surface noise from recordings.

Export to Net MD and Export as MP3 to CLIÉ commands have been added to the File menu to allow you to export your audio files to a Net MD™ device or a CLIÉ™ handheld.

Various improvements have been made to the Spectrum Analysis window: performance has been improved, frequency labeling on the x-axis is clearer, multiple slices are now displayed in alternating colors, and snapshot toolbar buttons display information about the audio stream and selection saved in the snapshot.

Effect automation envelopes can now be edited from the plug-in interface, and ToolTips display envelope names on hover.

A new setting has been added to the File Preferences tab. Select the Always proxy compressed formats check box if you want to create an uncompressed proxy (.sfap0) file when you open a compressed file format. Selecting this check box can improve performance on slower computers or for formats that cannot be decompressed quickly for real-time playback.

The MP3 plug-in has been revised to allow you to encode dual-channel and joint stereo MP3 files.

A bug has been fixed that could cause Sound Forge to crash when clicking in the Regions List or Playlist windows with no open data windows.

A bug that could cause CPU utilization to reach 100% during normal playback has been fixed.

A bug has been fixed that caused peaks to be rebuilt unnecessarily after extracting audio from a CD.

A bug has been fixed that could cause problems with undoing edits past the point where the Save As command was used.

If you open a Sound Forge project file (.frg) on a computer that does not have all the audio plug-ins used by the project, undo/redo information for the missing plug-ins will now be removed. In Sound Forge 7.0, you were able to undo actions only to the point at which a missing plug-in was last referenced in the project.

A bug that prevented metadata commands from being saved to RealMedia 9 files has been fixed.

A bug that prevented DBCS characters from displaying on the Summary tab of the Properties dialog has been fixed.

A bug has been fixed that could cause overlapping or adjacent timer events to be missed when using the Automatic: Time recording method.

A bug that caused the Review pre/post-roll controls in the Record dialog to be available in recording modes that do not support pre/post-roll has been fixed. The controls are available only in Punch-In and Automatic retake modes:

In Punch-In mode, you can review takes with pre- and post-roll.

In Automatic retake mode, the post-roll control is unavailable.

Wow. That's seems like a lot of rather substantial fixes (vs. more "cosmetic" ones). I'm not complaining; just glad they got them fixed in as timely a manner as they did.

I was almost annoyed with regular promos to upgrade to version 7 (did that a while ago)... until I saw that little tidbit about 7.0a available today. Hmm, these promos are useful after all ;-)

From the release notes sounds like a clear winner. Really happy now.

Notice Sony features slowly getting in: NetMD, Clie support. Actually, as an owner of both MD recorder and Clie, I appreciate this very much - less applications to maintain.

Cheers!

Alexei

Now if only SONY would be so kind as to give us upload to PC from their minidisk recording devices we'd really be rockin'.

Kind of amazing that they haven't! It took me hours last summer to finally realize I WASN'T overlooking something.

Hello -- all

Forgive my ignorance -- but -- What is sony minidisc recorder -- how does someone use it with Sound Forge?

Sounds like a very strong update. Too bad that it doesn't appear to have installed over my original v7.0 build 214. I downloaded the 35MB update file and ran it. All Sound Forge messages during the update/installation appeared normal. Even received the "Successful!" message when it completed, yet when I go to Help/About, I'm told I still have v7.0 build 214. Rebooted after applying the update (of course). Even reapplied the update and received yet another "Sucessful!" message ... yet I still have v7.0 build 214. (At least it still works :O)

As Fred Willard says in "A Mighty Wind" ... "Whaaaa Haaaaapen?!"

Best,
Dan

I noticed that the download from my products page said it was v.7.0a but it was the original 7.0. I went to the updates page and that download was the right one.

Just spotted the other (long) thread on the forum about this. Others had same problem, but the FTP link provided by a Sony Tech seems to point to the correct version. Apparently the update 7.0a is 34.7 MB, while the original 7.0 is 33.5 MB. Those are the numbers to be looking at closely. I do see the 34.7 MB v7.0a update when viewing the FTP listing ... but the Updates page I link to consistently points me to the v7.0 file (33.5 MB).

Pity I have to wait until tomorrow when I can pull it in on my office T-1 ... I'm still on a dial-up here at home!

Very glad Sony/SF people monitor these forums! Many thanks!

kbruff,

"What is sony minidisc recorder"
It's a digital recording device. You would use it as a sound source to Sound Forge (SF), and now a sound recorder from SF.

Check these sites:

Yep this is much better now, really now it's working as it should, thanks for giving us back this nice program with all the little newitys now in good shape (the 100% CPU utilization during playback was very annoying)

I never found much use for the vinyl restoration portion of the DX-NR plug-in, preferring the individual noise reduction and click & pop eliminator for doing a more exacting job.
